Its creepy and its coming. I've been watching this development for at least the last 12 months.

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this will be promoted and widely accepted in the US within the next 5 years, if not sooner. And we can easily guess where it will begin...........in the Colleges and Universities. After adoption, high schoolers will be encouraged to garner high social credit in order to get into university and the Universities themselves will doubtless quickly adopt the "social credit" system as a hugely significant portion of their admissions process because of the enormous flexibility it affords the admissions process.

Its already here!

So,
I hate to be that guy... But this already exists- it's just not public yet, nor is it national in the US- but most schools use a system of one kind or another to track their students.
A teacher can pick up a tablet, log in, click on the face of a student in their classroom and see all of their past grades (even from other school systems if they use the same software). They can see every single detention they've had, when they were last at the school nurse and why, if they've ever had counselling- and any notes left from past teachers, which could include details on family members.
I don't yet know if universities have access to these systems, but I do know that this is where transcripts are generated from. It's only a matter of time.

These same companies often make software for the local police and emergency services- it wouldn't be a big step for police to have access to school records of anyone they pulled over.
And since schools, police, justice systems, etc are all state funded, the companies that make this software are growing- FAST. Buying up the competition faster than they can integrate it.

Those profiles of "social worth" are already being put together- possibly even graded.

Oh, so very, very true.

I truly feel sorry for those under the age of 30. They're screwed and the big problem for them is that they're so poorly prepared for this. Most parents simply don't have the "big picture" view of this; they have no idea the extent to which they're kids are being monitored, scored, and their scores shared across a variety of platforms. Thus they don't properly filter their kids interactions to insure they're Politically Correct in a whole range of activities and communications systems. If a kid doesn't get all of this by the time they're in Middle School, by High School its way too late to fix the problem. And worse, they can't "remake" the image; they can't escape the online Identity they've carved out for themselves.

Sad to say, but I'd guess suicide rates are going to go through the roof over the next 20 years or so.

This should serve as a warning to the crowd who advocates progressive socialist single party control but it won't. It won't because the proponents envision themselves as inside the elite who will control everyone. It's at our doorstep and the key is in the lock, we need to make sure the door is nailed shut or this is exactly what a global society will look like.

Other than that though, no opinion

Brilliantly stated. And I've been warning for years that the One Party State is precisely what the Progressive "Democrats" have been angling at for at least the last 13 years.

This is a link to one of that concepts proponents.
medium.com...

Whether they can get there or not remains to be seen, but a Social Credit System would near lock in their success because unfortunately they will control the narrative around what it means to have a high Social Credit Score because they already control the narrative in the education system.

The RINO's are part of this as well! Let's just cut the 2 party semantics out and call them what they are. GLOBALISTS!

Yep, from your link!
thehill.com...

The rest of the world is steps away from trailing the Chinese into a surveillance state. The attitudes are already in place. The U.K. fines and even imprisons people for hate speech or speech deemed abhorrent to the prevailing norms of society. The U.S. is not far behind. Last week, a Manhattan judge ruled a bar can toss Trump supporters for their political viewpoints. A recent proliferation of politically motivated boycotts seeks to punish "bad" viewpoints; protesters are eager to shout down incorrect speech. In this political climate, it’s not difficult to imagine businesses or the government assessing social benefit or worth based upon a variety of factors including political speech.

And of course.........the platform to do this is already in place!

FACEBOOK!

I'd guess we'll start seeing a Facebook/Google collaboration to get this done. And I'd guess they'll start the mechanism in time for the 2020 election!

Um... not only is the platform in place, Facebook is already doing it... they call it a "trustworthiness" score.

Forbes Acticle

Last month the Washington Post reported that Facebook is assigning “trustworthiness” scores that rank the reputation of each of its users. Among other applications, the company acknowledged using the scores to determine whether posts flagged by users as false should be forwarded to fact checkers for review or whether the user’s concerns should simply be ignored. In contrast to its public pledges of transparency, the company is keeping its user rankings shrouded in absolute secrecy, acknowledging their existence, but refusing to comment on how they are determined or how they are used and declining to permit external evaluation for concerns of racial, sexual or other demographic and cultural bias.

So yes... it is becoming the norm.

I don't see why this is in the mud pit, I would think that everyone would agree that China's social credit score is a bad system for us to have in America. They punish people for having low scores, with things like slow internet connections, the inability to travel or get a job, etc.

One thing that will affect your social credit score is what you buy, for example, video games reduce your score - and you are rated based on how many hours you play online, as well! In case there was any confusion, the more video games you play, the lower your score.

What makes this possible is China's ability to use the internet and computers to survey what everyone says online, posts on social media, what videos people watch, what websites they visit, private messages, cell phone use, what people buy, etc... China has deals with Chinese social media companies and the like to monitor their citizens' use.

In the U.S., lots of people post everything about themselves on the internet where it is out in the open for anyone to see. This means that you could say something that could offend someone, and lose your job because of it. You might not get hired in the first place if your social media profile isn't up to par. In addition, companies store data about what you purchase, how much time you spend streaming shows, etc. that is already being bought by insurance companies in order to influence your insurance rates.

Although the U.S. probably won't get as totalitarian as China, I could see job security being based on what you say online and insurance rates being based on whatever data insurance companies can get about us - which is a lot.

What Facebook is doing isn't nearly as bad as China - they are simply trying to flag factually incorrect content, even in the worst case scenario, a person could be posting factually incorrect content every day and just get it flagged as being untrustworthy.

Does a newspaper fact-check its stories? Reputable ones do, at least. This is what Facebook is trying to do, it wants its users to be correctly informed, not influenced by lies. Something being a lie is not determined by whether it is a conservative or liberal idea, it is determined by whether it is factually correct or not.

What about behavior violations on the Facebook platform? If you go to a library, can you insult blacks or gays or otherwise harass people? What about a museum, or a movie theater, or a restaurant? All of these areas have standards of behavior. As long as the standards are applied equally to everyone despite their political leanings and whatnot, it is only fair.

Oh, yes, and a company as trustworthy as facebook would NEVER sell that data to the people who control the student records, police records, and court documents...

and those companies would NEVER sell that data back to the police and courts...

This cannot be stopped, but it's already gone too far. People who grew up with social media are totally hosed for any sort of privacy in their personal life, and anyone who grew up after school systems started tracking absolutely every detail in the computer are also screwed for any hope of privacy on their past.

I give it ten years and this stuff will start being included in background check reports.

I was reminded of that episode of The Orville when they found the Earthlike Planet with the Facebook like social system.

I'm to the point I want to get off this lunatic planet.

Wow.

This is scary indeed. It's sad that many services, including utilities and renting apartments, require a credit score now. That's really messed up... and it could get worse?

All ya need is a genocidal cleansing to be incorporated into that.

Let's not forget how some people are viewed trying to get a job and explaining they DO NOT HAVE a Farcebook account?

I tried to hand over a few seconds of tornado video, and because I no longer kowtow to social media- the news station didn't want it.

We do it ourselves sort of in a little way on ATS with the stars.
Not nearly as close to being the same but possibly a small baby step.

But if you dont like your stars or the lack of... you can always go awol and create another account and chose a different persona.

Honestly, this is nothing like it. We aren't buying and selling and we're not kicked out because of our lack of stars, abused or anything of the sort. Everyone still remains equal here.

I'm not particularly bothered by the average person who calls themselves progressive and we do need the Left and Right to strike a balance, but I think the outliers in the fringe of the Left are becoming a problem as they indoctrinate young people and Democratic Socialist's get a foothold.

The fringe on the Right is just as large of threat in my opinion, as they also want single party control. It's radicalism in general that is the problem. It's the idea one side should dictate to all that is the threat.

Whether it comes from Left or Right, single party control has always led to a two class system lorded over by the self appointed elite whose snake oil poisoned the minds of the masses.

I've never given much thought or care to a "mark of the beast" type thing, but this sounds well on the way to one.

Didn't want to be the one to say it... but...

Sometimes it just slaps ya right in the face when you see it. If it's not the real deal, it's certainly a stepping stone.

I think there is a dragon reference in there somewhere

Yeah, I have heard about these moves in China. It's a way to control the population and turn everyone into robots. Robots who never question the motives or actions of their government. Very worrying.

You mean America?

With the masses on social media to cellphone usage being the norm, imagine how easily it would be implemented. That if no one speaks up against it. It will likely be hyped how credit scores initially became the standard.

Excellent original post, thanks for including here. Although it looks like ATSers already addressed the major points, I'd also like to add Revelation 13:16-18 for consideration:

"It (The Beast out of the Earth) also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man."

Know the truth, the math, calculate, watch the watchers, deny this mark.
