Why? I don't get it. It's like they're practicing to be in a bad martial arts movie. I truly hope they don't think that the teachers are that powerful... just wow.

As a life long practitioner of martial arts (Kajukenbo) I find these videos hilarious, disturbing and embarrassing all at the same time.

Florida?
nice man

how long have you been at it?

i have been on and off for more than 20 years.
going to be a life long blue. im fine with it. when i go anymore it is really just to mess around and talk jiu jitsu with like minded people cause my wife gets tired of me talking about it.
i took a couple work injuries years back and i am in pain all the time so that kind of gets in the way

every now and then i like to go get wrecked by dudes far younger than me

i took my first class in Florida way back in the day. it was very unorganized back then.
nobody really knew anything

at Brasa now but i dont go that often. the guy that runs the school is cool. knows my situation. i just pop in every now and again for the no gi class.

Whahaha...I love watching this stuff but purely for entertainment.

I've been practising Judo for +20 years and a part of the training is called Kata. It's purely for show and conserving the style. It takes months/years to get it exactly right and is an art form in and of itself...

These videos are not part of any MA kata routine...it reminds me of when I tried to catch a fly with chopsticks because Daniel Larusso could...lol

Peace

Yeah cute is another way of describing it...

I personally think this whole phenomenon derives from the different MA techniques that are out there. I remember in the 80's when Segal introduced me to Aikido. As with Judo, you use your opponents force and deflect and redirect it in your advantage.

With Judo you can choose to either collect 100 game points or demonstrate a couple of Kata to achieve your black belt. In judo Kata is really more a synchronized demonstration between you and your partner and to an MMA fighter it will look more like fancy ballet which won't bring you anything in the ring.

It just from which angle you look at it I guess...

But these videos the OP posted are really just some people's "Manga" idea of what martial arts is (hey...I tried a "Kamehameha" once or twice when I'm exercising.....alone....when no one is around...lol). It's fun to look at but has nothing to do with reality...

Peace

ETA: Any style/video that claims to use secret techniques that they can’t show the public because they’re too dangerous should always be avoided

First let me say judo is the truth. Father of jiu jitsu and for that I love it.

Katas have their place. If you're taking karate or whatever just to stay in shape or just cause you think it's beautiful then it's great.

If you're taking karate cause you think katas and breaking boards mean you're a tough guy then you're mistaken.
.traditional martial arts are fantastic and I hope they are never lost.
We need to see them for what they are though.
