"In the essay, Mr. Massad also compares Israel's treatment of Palestinians to Nazi Germany's treatment of Jews. After Israel's founding, he writes, Zionism "transformed those who remained inside Israel into foreigners in their own land and, from 1948 until 1966, subjected them to life under a military, racialist system of rule that was reminiscent of the life of European Jews under the worst types of anti-Semitic rule." The Nazis, he argues, serve as "pedagogical model" for the Israeli army."

This is a remarkable example of why the "left' needs to be driven out of acedemics. Revisonist history is a conspiracy.................

I agree with that paragraph. I don't know much about revisionist theory but I do know the Canadian government has a political prisoner who is a revisionist.

Jews are Jews and Evil people are Evil people. Is George Bush an American or an Evil Person. I'd say Evil. Evil as defined as not the same as a citizen of the country but someone with power over the citizens and does not use it to help them but for their own personal and imperialistic gains.

The Evil people in Israel were taught many methods against them which they learned and practice on others or they made it up themselves and were never slaughtered or who knows where they learned to be so Evil but thety are. When the Israeli army ran over my classmate with a bulldozer because she would not let them raze a palestinian doctors house all I can say is the Evil people must die and in that situation they were the Israeli's so don't respond saying anything about palestinians are more Evil. I am talking about Israel now.

First off, this is not Revisionist history. Revisionist history is rewriting factual events. Mr. Massad is addressing motives, or rather conspiracy. Secondly, nowhere in this article does it state Mr. Massad's political affiliations.

Just another reason why the "right" needs to start going to school.

The Evil people in Israel ?

now wait here ,hold your horses !

Yes there are some hardliners there ,including the settlers who are not willing for a fair compromise. But labeling the whole of Israel Evil is a traversty.
And yes Israel has put up an Aparthide setup on the palestinians. But branding the whole population of Israel as evil is a ted to much.

Jadestone slow down. I said Jews are Jews and Evil people are Evil people. I said the Evil people in Israel, not ALL people in Israel. Understand? I am saying there are Evil people in Israel. I am not saying all Isrealis are Evil. There are no Israelis except for foreigners who change their national status to Israeli. Otherwise you are a Jew living in Israel. And they are Jews first before they are Israelis, understand.

Some people in Israel are Evil, they are the Evil People.
Some people in Israel are Jews, they are the Jewish people.

I hope that is clear.

If you don't think there is a very high level of racism in Israel you just don't have a clue.

billingsgazette
JERUSALEM — Israel’s parliament passed a measure Thursday that would force Palestinians who marry Israelis to live separate lives or move out of Israel. The government said the law was necessary to prevent terror attacks, but critics called it racist.

The law, to be in effect for one year, would prevent Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip who marry Israeli Arabs from obtaining residency permits in Israel.

ariannaonline

This is merely one of the expressions of racism that are multiplying in Israeli society. The Education Ministry bans Arab students in Haifa from enrolling at the city's state schools because they are reserved for Jews only. TV's Channel 2 runs a promo for a segment on disabled Arab children being thrown out of their special-ed school in Hadera. And the ink is still wet on results of a Haifa University survey that found that some 60 percent of Jews believe the government should encourage Arabs to leave the country (just two years ago the rate of support for transfer was 31 percent).

Understood what you were tying to say.

Yes there is still settlement going on and there are still people coming to Israel in serch of the promised land. Sadly the promised land is in the Israeli occupied territory.

Why?

The israelis came into their new state, and kicked out the ethnic palestinians. Zionism, in that form, was an ethnic/nationalist movement, in a vague way it is similar to the nazi goal of national ethnic states, tho thats in rather poor taste and need not be said normally.

??? I do not agree.

  1. Goal of Separation

    Apartheid South Africa:

The explicit goal of bantustans was the elimination of rights of the majority South African black population, to ensure white hegemony

    Israel's Security Fence:

The explicit goal of the security fence is preventing surreptitious terrorist entry to Israel, which has caused the murder of hundreds of Israeli civilians

  2. Citizenship

    Apartheid South Africa:

A central goal of official apartheid "separate development" was to strip black South Africans of their citizenship.

    Israel's Security Fence:

West Bank Palestinians were never citizens of Israel.

  3. Forced transfer

    Apartheid South Africa:

Between 1950 and 1986, about 1.5 million Africans were forcibly removed from "white" cities to rural reservations

    Israel's Security Fence:

The security fence causes no transfer of population.

  4. Opposition to nation

    Apartheid South Africa:

South African blacks, cordoned into bantustans, did not seek the destruction of South Africa, but rather the removal of the apartheid regime.

    Israel's Security Fence:

The majority of Palestinians in the territories dispute Israel's very right to exist; this has bred terror, and ultimately, the need for the fence

  5. Permanence

    Apartheid South Africa:

South African bantustans were an effort to force a permanent international status on lands, and the black population living there.

    Israel's Security Fence:

The security fence is a temporary defensive measure, not a border; inconveniences caused by the fence are reversible.

  6. Colonialism

    Apartheid South Africa:

South African "separate development" was an outgrowth of imperialist, colonial policy

    Israel's Security Fence:

Israel is "colonial" neither with regard to the source of its population (mostly refugees), nor their deep historical relationship to the land.

Its more complicated than we think. First of all the majority of the settlers came after the WWII and their main aim was survival at any cost . The palestinian paid the cost of the new nationlistic movement of the jews.
But can you deny that the jews were some what forced to make this exile by the Europeans. There is still fear in Poland and many European countries that the jews will come back to reclaim their property.
Will Europe wellcome back the jews and give back whats rightfull theirs.

I remember one incedent when a Arab Israeli girl of about 17 was put to trail . She was travelling in a bus ,when a sucide bomber boarded the bus . The bomber saw the girl and realizing that the girl was arab asked her to get out of the bus which see did. The bomber went ahead with his plan....
Now the poor girl was standing trail for a crime which she was not respondsible. Was there not a possibility that the girl might have been tramatized by the incident and in fear not alert the authority. was there not a possibility that the girl feared harrasment in the name of introgation(the treatment of arab suspect in Israel is of course not a pretty story ) and not
alert the authority.

Although I do not know the outcome of the trail.
I doubt she would have been prosecuted if she was a jew.

The wall encloses the palestanian in a ghetto structure used just like the Nazis in Warsaw, Poland. There is not much ecomonic prospect for the inhabitians and there is dispair just like the ghetto.

Yes , there is an Apartheid structure but its more subtile and sophisticated.

No, that is not true.

As the British finally left the country on May 14, 1948, David Ben Gurion declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel. He said:

.... "We appeal - in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months -to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israe to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions.

We extend our hand to all neighbouring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighbourliness, and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people settled in its own land. The State of Israel is prepared to do its share in a common effort for the advancement of the entire Middle East"....

But 5 Arab armies (Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon and Iraq) immediately invaded Israel.

Thousands of Israeli and Arab soldiers died and approximately 600,000 Palestinians fled their homes. The Arab war to destroy Israel failed.

At the time of the establishment of the State of Israel, Israeli Arabs numbered about 110,000 (11 percent of the total Israeli population).

Today the number of Israeli Palestinians is nearly 19 percent of the total Israeli population. Israel has absorbed them into many facets of its society - into a democratic political system with a plurality of political parties which does not exist anywhere else in the Arab world.

I suggest you take a history lesson and learn abot the Nazi-Ghettos - and please read some Israeli newspapers or go to the Westbank or Gazastrip to see how the Palestinians live.

Hmmm.....

44% poverty ,looks like they are pretty well of.

One of the main reasons of unemployment is the closure policy practiced by Israeli authorities. Areas under Palestinian authority control constitute small detached islands controlled by Israeli checkpoints. Since the beginning of the second Intifada, September 2000, about 120000 Palestinians working in Israel have lost their jobs because of the closure policy.

The World Bank estimates that the poverty rate will rise to about 43.8% by the end of 2001.

The Arabs were almost half of the population of the proposed Jewish State, which only accounted for 55% of the land of Palestine.
The fact that they only accounted for 11% of the State of Israel a couple of years later shows just how many were forced out, especially since Israel was 78% of Palestine by that time instead of the proposed 55%.

UNTIED NATIONS SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON PALESTINE
3 September 1947

The figures given for the distribution of the settled population in the
two proposed States, as estimated on the basis of official figures up to
the end of 1946, are approximately as follows:

The Jewish State:
Jews - 498,000
Arabs - 407,000
Total - 905,000

The Arab State
Jews - 10,000
Arabs - 725,000
Total - 735,000

City of Jerusalem
Jews - 100,000
Arabs - 105,000
Total - 205,000

In addition there will be in the Jewish State about 90,000 Bedouins,
cultivators and stock owners who seek grazing further afield in dry
seasons.

You mean those who fleed?

In 1949 (during the Lausanne negotiations) , Israel offered to take back 100,000 Palestinian refugees prior to any discussion of the refugee question.

But: the Arab states, who had refused even to negotiate face-to-face with the Israelis, turned down the offer. You know why? Because it implicitly recognized Israel's existence!

On humanitarian grounds Israel has since the 1950's allowed more than 50,000 refugees to return to Israel under a family reunification program,

and between 1967 and 1993 allowed a further 75,000 to return to the West Bank or Gaza.

Since the beginning of the Oslo process Israel has allowed another 90,000 Palestinians to gain residence in PA-controlled territory.

Furthermore, Arabs who lost property in Israel are eligible to file for compensation from Israel's Custodian of Absentee Property.

End of 1993, app 14,700 claims had been filed, claims had been settled with respect to more than 200,000 dunums of land.

More than 10,000,000 NIS had been paid in compensation, and more than 54,000 dunums of replacement land had been given in compensation.
