Isn't there any middle ground? The left wants open borders, and the right wants a extremely expensive wall with an even more expensive upkeep and guard.

I just see stupidity from both sides.

It's funny how people are terrified of this concept of "globalism". Yet we are all globalists in some way. We transitioned into globalism at the turn of the 20th century and have been living in a globalist world for over 100 years now. Not a single person on this planet can say they lived in a time of pre-globalism, and this is especially true of the 1st World.

After a few speed bumps in the way of world wars, things haven't been better. You can't point to a time in history where the world has been this prosperous and this free of violence. Yes economic destitution still exists and wars are still fought, but nothing on the scale it used to.

But besides matters that are beyond the common man, you and I are also globalists. Ever take a trip overseas? Do you think that would be possible if every country was nationalist and super restrictive on tourism? Don't like that example? Well just about everything you consume on a daily basis has some part of its manufacturing process coming from globalism. Even the precious "Made in America" label that US nationalists worship really only means "Assembled in America". The raw materials usually come from elsewhere, and if they don't the small parts of the device definitely were made elsewhere.

Globalism doesn't necessarily mean an end to borders, because we live in a reality at this very moment of installed globalism and national borders are very much still a thing throughout the world. I know most of you anti-globalists will refuse to listen to me here, but this should be said anyways.

Most often, I don't think you serve your ideas all that well, by dint of your posting style. But, I think this is pretty spot on. And of course, my ego takes a tiny bit of satisfaction, from knowing my stars are really sucky at sticking...

Sigh...

When I was in college at Penn State, I had to take a Political Science class as part of the curriculum. I'm an independent that leans conservative. My father fought in WWII as did all of my uncles. I am a fiercely proud American.

First day of that class, the professor stood up in front of the class, and announced that today was about the abolishment of the American way of life as we know it. That was an exact quote. I will never forget it.

He went on the explain that our way of life, was unfair to the rest of the world. Why should we have all of these things simply because we were born here?

His view was that we should all have everything equally, and that no one should have more than anyone else, AND everyone should be willing to give what they have to society.

I raised my hand. "Yes?" "I wanted to ask, so can I please move into your house, the costs here on campus are outrageous, oh and can I have sex with your wife?" The entire class burst into laughter. "Ummmm, well, of course not." "So, you want everyone ELSE to have everything equally, AND give everything equally, but not yourself, okay I get it."

I removed myself from that class after I walked out, as did 20 or so of my classmates. He still teaches there today, 29 years later.

Socialism has been tried so many times and failed so many times (and we are witnessing this again), BUT no matter what, these idiots seem to think that if AMERICA does it, it will THEN work.

America is the greatest nation on this planet. It should be a privilege to live here. We should admit the immigrants that will make it even better. Make other nations take note of our successes and want to emulate them.

Build the wall, and admit immigrants that want to make America Great. That want to make themselves great.

Fred..

Epic! And none of your grand-children will really ever understand...well...unless they are smart enough to get into Space! ;o)

I’m just following the official party talking points. Every democrat I’ve ever met hasn’t been for totally open borders.
Just pro sanctuary cities, pro sanctuary states, and not denouncing any of the vast welfare carrot they've put to entice illegal crossings. At the same time Trump has offered accepting many many of their demands in exchange for compromising on the wall, his presidential candidacy promise, yet they would rather risk the well-being of illegals than secure the border.

They don't really care about illegal citizens, they just care for the votes they can leech off of them and the heartstrings of liberals they can pull with them. Just like they did to the black voting block letting the inner cities rot, and now bringing low skill illegal workers to cause the wages of the poorest to be bid down even further. They have no shame.

Sorry but wasn't even one of the Clintons talking about a wall? The wall is not extremely expensive and there are various proposals. It is also effective, and symbolic. And a campaign promise.

The only people that are working to keep Trump from keeping his campaign promises are democrats despite the many concessions he's offered in exchange for a relatively cheap yet highly effective solution.

You know the cost of illegal immigration? The cost of all that affirmative action, all those minority quotas? Every time you take a seat from a high achieving student and give it to a less capable one just because of their skin or gender, every time you do that racist and sexist thing, every time you do that you are potentially costing billions in potential innovation.

15-20 billion plus endless billions for upkeep / guarding is relatively cheap?????????

Also, colleges choose to give scholarships to illegals (sometimes), not the federal government. Not really a federal issue. Also, a brilliant innovator isn't going to stop innovating because they missed one scholarship to one college.

Why should we HAVE to let trump complete his campaign promise.

It's buzzare that one of our main priorities in this country is building a giant expensive wall...

Its a really important wall and most importantly every American citizens life will drastically improve when this wall is completed, there will be more jobs, there will be less crime, there will be less welfare and less addiction. Pollution will be reduced and chemicals will cause less harm, GMOs will improve life expectancy and abortion will be abolished and thats all in the first year....

Recourse is what you were looking for. The link I posted was fascinating (at least to me). About agreements between countries, how long they have been in place, how intricate - how vulnerable

We already live in a globalized reality

Definitely there are no guarantees in life, and it's going to be a struggle over resources, but only if we keep on at it like we have been - just like you say

If its just an activist group, why is it the left, the media, and the democrats are all on exactly the same page, often using the same talking points against Trump? Its very unified and well concerted. Sorry, not buying it, this might be one group but they all have the same or similar goals.

It stems from Leftist Queen Hillary lumping Trump supporters in a basket of deplorables.

It is not ridiculous. There are many things written on the subject. You can choose to accept it or not. I am not going to call your observations or sources ridiculous. The Bilderberg meetings, Council on Foreign Relations., Trilateral commission all have ties to this. Live in the matrix or out of it. This is the choice we have in this life. You choose to believe mainstream media. I believe those who do their research and my own.

Just because there are writings on the subject doesn't mean the topic is true. There are many writings on Superman too. Do you believe in him as well?

Free of violence? Are you kidding? Since the CFR runs things there are continuous global conflicts. The globalists call it "managed conflict" . Not to mention the rise of such violent protests as Antifa, who have ties to communism. There is a difference between being global and being a globalist. Globalists are Internationalist. They have no loyalty to any one nation, but that flies in the face of true Patriotism. No loyalty, no problem just sell out whoever you feel like at any time if it suits their greedy desires. I'm sick of hearing liberals whine about selfishness when they support this type of globalist exploitation.

If the worst violence you have to deal with is antifa rioting from time-to-time then you really don't have much to complain about as far as violence is concerned. Come back to me when our major cities are hollow shells of death and destruction.

Sure, honey, right after you take in all those babies into your home that women won’t be allowed to abort after Kavanaugh gets into the Supreme Court.

Lol. Revisionist history? I wager you haven't opened a history book in quite some time.

Lincoln and the socialist roots of the Republican Party

Nichols writes that after Lincoln addressed the challenges of the war, he also spoke of another, perhaps deeper, division. He wanted to speak about the danger of government favoring the interests of capital over labor. In doing so he presented the radical analysis of Marx and others of his time.

" It is not needed, nor fitting here [in discussing the Civil War] that a general argument should be made in favor of popular institutions; but there is one point, with its connections, not so hackneyed as most others, to which I ask a brief attention. It is the effect to place capital on an equal footing with, if not above, labor, in the structure of government. It is assumed that labor is available only in connection with capital; that nobody labors unless somebody else, owning capital, somehow by the use of it induces him to labor. This assumed, it is next considered whether it is best that capital shall hire laborers, and thus induce them to work by their own consent, or buy them, and drive them to it without their consent. Having proceeded thus far, it is naturally concluded that all laborers are either hired laborers or what we call slaves. And further, it is assumed that whoever is once a hired laborer is fixed in that condition for life.

Now, there is no such relation between capital and labor as assumed, nor is there any such thing as a free man being fixed for life in the condition of a hired laborer. Both these assumptions are false, and all inferences from them are groundless.

Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. Capital has its rights, which are as worthy of protection as any other rights."

Yes, they will keep having babies. Its SO hard to use birth control, isn't it? God forbid people for even a moment give a thought to being personally responsible for their reproductive powers, right?

Well, if the Religious Right is to be given any credence, one could make the case for a barrage of immaculate conceptions. Where is your personal responsibility argument then? Clearly at that point free will would have been thrown out the window.
