Why? I'm flying to Fort Worth to see family.

I Do Not like to fly.
I know...it statistically the safest way to travel. You know how I know that?? Superman said so, right after catching the plane THAT WAS CRASHING.
Why not just drive?
Well, my truck is old and even though it Has made the trip before, my son needs it for work and let's be honest, it's a 96 Ram with a V8 Magnum. With a good run down a steep hill and a brisk tailwind, it gets MAYBE 15 mpg on the highway.
Afraid of heights? No. I've roofed 3 story houses and never blinked. 50 - 60ft is nothin.
35 THOUSAND in a thin metal tube at 500mph is a whole nother story. And just to add to the fun, the crotch grope and anal probe from the TSA .
On the bright side, I get groped one last time, so.....
Am I actually that scared to fly? It does make me nervous and I'd avoid it if I could, but I haven't seen my oldest son in too long. We talk and text, but it's not the same and I miss him and the rest of the family.
Do I freak out or medicate myself? No. I board the plane, sit down, fasten the seatbelt and concentrate on my book......and ass clutch that seat like Scrooge McDuck on a dollar bill till it comes to a complete stop.
Have I flown before? Oh yeah...quite a few times.
I still don't like it.

Crikey! That's a lot of miles up. Sounds like you need a grease and oil change.

Kind regards,

It sounds like a lot until you stack it up against some of the really big time fliers that do 500,000 to over 1,000,000 in a year.

I sympathize.

I don't like to fly either, but I am afraid of heights. I also have trouble equalizing pressure through my sinuses and into my ears, so the pressure changes are hell.

I only do it when I have to.

My sister is a commercial pilot, formally an FAA “incident” investigator.

As she says “Speed and altitude are a pilot’s (or passenger’s) best friends. It’s not the falling tens of thousands of feet that will hurt you,

It’s that last foot that gets you!”

Safe travels!

LOL BS. I would have a heart attack before the last foot.

@David Like you I am scared to fly, and most of your post I could have written myself. Except, I haven't flown since I was an infant, and If I ever do? There will be lots Xanax involved.

To the point of drooling.

Yep Im terrified of flying too.

Its not the safest way to travel BTW. That would be walking..

Last time we flew out of KC to Atlanta I was nervous as hell(hadnt flown in years) my wife offered me one of her clonapin.I I said no because I really hate pills.

Well we parked and got on the shuttle bus form the lot to the airport and the damm guy crashed the bus..

Needless to say I took the clonapin lol.

Don't feel bad. It's a normal reaction. People don't like putting their lives in other people's hands. I've never flown and the idea kind of scares me. If there's engine trouble or something the pilot can't exactly pull over to the shoulder. Anywho, at least you're not like this:

I still love flying.

Before online meetings, I used to fly a LOT....but these days, it's mostly just for vacations vs. work. And maybe like twice a year now. (used to be like twice a month, well I guess 4, since there and back).

Then again, I grew up around it as a service brat. Army first, then Coast Guard, then defense contractors like Lockheed, Boeing, Sikorsky, etc. My father got around in them.

To the above, you'd be amazed at how much could go wrong with a plane and it STILL could land somewhat safely. I'd rather get in even a small plane, than some of my friends' cars, the way they drive.
