a bit of background first.
a couple of weeks ago I was driving with the family and the kids were, so we thought, asleep in the back. My wife and I are talking about how we
didn't sign the kids up for any afterschool programs as a result of our both being overwhelmed at work. So, my wife suggested we sign our son up for
this gym class and he suddenly speaks out from the back and says he doesn't want to go to the gym class. I ask him what he wants to do and he says
"um, I want to have class with papa."
I relay this to my dad, who is so flattered and excited that he tells his secretary to never make appointments for wednesday afternoons as he is going
to be spending those days with my son.
Week one was last week and it was a blast for both of them.
My dad just called, he's sitting in a restaurant with my son and he's cracking up. First he tells me my son wanted this giant toy from some store
and he said "sure but only if you carry it." He said my son then carried this monster box around the store for ten minutes and, after tiring, he
dragged and pushed the box around the store. Then my dad tells me they went to Virgils (bbq joint) for burgers because my son said he wanted to eat
there. My dad asked him if he like hamburgers and his response was "yes, I had one once but I didn't finish it because I was in a rush. let's get
another one because I don't have anywhere to go."
The joy in my dad's voice has planted a nice smile on my face.
The boxes of ATS books that arrived today put a nice smile on my face.
Today has been a good day. I'll probably get run over by a bus on the way home, killing the mood, and me in the process.
