According to performyourmagic.blogspot.com... :

    HOW is it possible?

Using a technique they described 1994, Philippe G. Schyns & Aude Oliva (1999) hid 2 faces in one hybrid image: one image was high-pass filtered (≥ 8 cpd), the other low-pass filtered (≤ 2 cpd) [reproduced with kind permission].
With normal vision, the higher spatial frequency image ‘wins’. When blurring the image (by whatever means, walking away in thses case!), only the low-pass image remains.

This method can be applied to many image types, but with a face exchange it seems especially amazing.

You can get a similar effect if you stay sitting but blur your eyes.

Wow... That was really cool. Thanks for my first smile of the day. Oh wait... I think I smiled this morning when I heard The Beatles - Golden Slumbers song. My old man used to sing that song to me as a lullaby when I was tiny.

Sleep pretty darling do not cry,
and I will sing a lullaby...
Golden Slumbers fill your eyes,
Smiles await you when you rise,
Sleep pretty darling do not cry,
and I will sing a lullaby.

Love that tune...

This gave me cause to smile today:

    Altruism 'in-built' in humans.

Infants as young as 18 months show altruistic behaviour, suggesting humans have a natural tendency to be helpful, German researchers have discovered.

In experiments reported in the journal Science, toddlers helped strangers complete tasks such as stacking books....

Nearly all of the group of 24 18-month-olds helped by picking up the peg or the book, usually in the first 10 seconds of the experiment...

"The results were astonishing because these children are so young - they still wear diapers and are barely able to use language, but they already show helping behaviour," said Felix Warneken.

Home movies of my wife, at 3 years old.
She hasn't changed much, she's taller and has a larger vocabulary!
It made me smile.

Gonna sound stupid but something that made me smile was when I saw a bus drive past a person waiting at the bus stop without stopping with the person at the stop waving to get the drivers attention in vaine and then pretend that nothing happend...

does that make me a bad person?

What made me smile today was at riding, the bossy little 13year old who allways tells me what to do, told me i was doing something wrong, straight after the instructor said how I had just done it perfectly, and she had done it wrong
she looked so embarrased

And this little dude makes me smile

Coming home earlier, as I came in my baby kitten was being a major sook. Everywhere I went he followed me, as soon as I sat down he plopped on my lap and would not stop until I petted him.

Thought it was funny and put a smile on my face.

Great thread!

What made me happy today? Chating with someone realy special, but that always does. Also finding out that a family problem is now over and the person has got what they deserved.

But mainly chatting to that special person.

JAK,

Leave it to you to start a thread with such a simplistic desire.

"What made me[you] smile today?"

  • Drawing a breath while awakenng from my slumber

  • Picking up my son from the school Nurse's office after he had sprained his ankle.

  • Greeting the wife with a kiss and hug when she got home from work.

  • Seeing this thread full of thanksgiving.

As always,
Thanks JAK!

Watching my 180 lb Great Dane pick a fight with a local cat...and lose. LOL...he ran like a weeny. The cat nicked em on his nose, poor guy. He is only 8 months old so still a lad with much to learn about the ways of the world.

What made me smile today was
Getting up at 6am to the birds singing and the sun shining
Having frozen grapes (mmmmmmmm)
Taking the dog to the park and chatting with some random woman about dogs for ages
Getting told I have the potential to become a doctor *
Does a happy dance
*
Then coming home, and talking to my best friend and someone else special

'Tis a good day today
