The news is reporting that the film makers omitted the planting of the US flag from the movie.

TIME Magazine / Flag Scene

MAXIM Magazine / Ryan Gosling defends the decision

Marlow Stein from Daily Beast had some eyewitness Tweets. Those responding to his Tweet are predictably making this about stupid Trumpsters.

I'll wait to hear more information.

This does effect my decision to go see the movie. I usually never care about these kinds of controversies, but I'm finding this news disappointing. Mostly because of what I judge the intentions of the movie makers to be.

"I think this was widely regarded in the end as a human achievement [and] that's how we chose to view it, " Gosling said per the Telegraph.

"I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible."

The whole point of the moon landings was to beat the Russians to show that our system was better than their system.

Why bother making the movie if you leave out the politics of the story?

Do you suppose they will leave off the big fricken flag on their space suits too?

Won’t be going to this hollyweird dribble! My money will go to buying ammo or a night out.

As much as I try to avoid oversimplified ideas...
to these kind of people, if America looks good, Trump wins.

Hopefully, it will turn out to be poor reporting...

Wow, I won’t support this either. It doesn’t make it less of a human achievement because it was done by the U.S. Never reward bad behavior...especially with money.

Hahahaha that's so dumb. Planting the flag in a historical space race is too controversial and discriminatory?

When did humanity become reduced to the intellectual and emotional equivalent of a sobbing toddler?

Engineers, scientists, technicians etc from many countries where involved on The Apollo Project to put a man on the moon.

Should flags of their countries also have been planted on the moon?

I revoke my previous comment after reading this.

Because you are 100% right.

The entire world was focused on this space race.
A fricken country almost went bankrupt.
It is an god damn astounding achievement and the fricken flag should be in the movie.

The scene should be "He pounds the flag into the ground, then takes his helmet off for a picture beside it, while holding his breath"

I'm old enough to remember watching it on the tv box.

Still won't watch the movie unless Scarlett Johansen shows some hooter.

Nope. We footed the bill. They were working for the US. Other countries have their flag on the moon because THEY planted it there.

Sounds a lot like "You didn't build that" to me.

Why are you asking me why history took place the way it did?

I don't have any special say in this situation ???
