That very specifically has 'monkey,' 'f###ing', and 'football' - only one of which appears in the sentence.

You'd say something like 'that guy doing THING is like a monkey f###ing a football' ...

And having a socialist in charge of a state would be like a monkey humping a football.

...we all know the left wouldn't have any issue had DeSantis dropped an F bomb in his statement, ya? Hell, there would probably be articles written about him being a racist and into animal intercourse considering how Trump "grab 'em" throw-away shuck and jive suddenly became equivalent to the man actually doing the act repeatedly. The left and their kept media aren't exactly known for their brevity where manufactured outrage and hyperbole are concerned.

That's actually too fair and too kind. In the end, the monkey does manage to get the job done and results are produced alongside a football which needs cleaned, but it otherwise intact. Socialist Gillum would ultimately destroy the football and probably the entire playing field, stands, concessions, bunting, and leave behind a mess which not even Oxyclean could get the stains out of.

He was referring to the "progress" being made in Florida... That's what he was saying shouldn't be "monkey up."

BTW, does anyone remembers all the claims from "Democrats" that they are not "socialists"?... Yet according to some of the latest polls around 51%+ of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism, and now you have got several candidates running for governor in various states who are running on a socialist platform, including in Florida which is full of people who have escaped from socialist economies and communist systems...

This is so dumb.

I use the term "monkey around" all of the time.

"hey, you kids stop monkeying around!"

Now all of the sudden, if one of those kids is black, I am a disgusting racist?

This is what is wrong with our political system.

Instead of arguing policies, everyone is searching everywhere they can, to comments years past of facebook, to interviews that are current, for anything that they can interpret as offensive in any way.

The person who can feign more offense at their opponent is the winner.

I dont see how desantis's comment was anything other than a common colloquialism that has nothing to do with race.

But for some, this will be all the proof they need to claim this guy is a racist and he must be rejected.

Not surprising though, because they know they have nothing worth arguing on policy

Hmm... slight problem...

He didn't say "monkey around."

The idiom "monkey around" is commonly understood.

He said “monkey this up."

To "monkey around" means to waste time doing something unproductive or unhelpful, to goof around, etc.

What is "monkey this up" supposed to mean?

His statement: "The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state."

Was it supposed to be "monkey around?"

"The last thing we need to do is to monkey around by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state."

Doesn't really fit the preceding: "... we gotta work hard to make sure that we continue Florida going in a good direction. Let’s build off the success we’ve had on Gov. Scott."

I think he meant to say "muck" instead of monkey.

It would make more sense: "The last thing we need to do is to muck this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state."

Freudian slip?

Dont pretend that you dont know what monkey this up means. Nothing racist about it.

I heard this on the radio and didnt think anything of it. Only a racist would inject this into the race world.

No, I do not. I have never heard such an expression before.

Explain what it means if you can.

I think it's more telling of where the genuine racism is festering.

Imagine being the one guy who jumps up in a quiet room and yells "HE CALLED YOU A MONKEY BECAUSE YOU'RE BLACK!!!"

-awkwardddddd....

I may very well have used the phrase monkey around in front of them, or monkey things up, I have no idea, because they know I am not racist, and it didnt even register as something to bat an eye about.

I've said far worse in jest, and had the same said back at me, by my friends when we are together. It's not racist if the context is not racist as I suspect is the case in the Original Post.

Exacftly.

And I will tell you this; if Gillum came out and said "He I appreciate his clarification, I dont think it was racist and this is a non issue. Now lets talk about policy."

I would have a ton of respect for him.

if you can find one time when 'monkey' was used or monkey images or metaphors other than when a black person is concerned I'll venmo you a grand.

find 2 whites debating and a monkey reference is invoked...

perhaps we need to go back a few steps.

1. This can help you understand where speech comes from, just to make sure you have a foundation
Evolution of Speech

2. Familiarize yourself with the phenomena of 'figurative speech'
Top 20 Figures of Speech

3. Check out this list someone made to cover a large number of 'monkey' related figures of speech
MONKEY figure of speech examples

4. Since you won't find the EXACT phrase of 'monkey up,' it might help you to see how speech evolves.
Certain phrases and figures of speech evolve based on commonly held understandings and generally understood meanings of those phrases. If I call you DIM, but fail to say 'dim bulb' or 'dimwit', it is understood that I'm calling you stupid.

Here is a paper describing how idioms can evolve. The process can be applied to all figures of speech
Evolution of Idioms

I'm sure after you study, your questions will seem less Derp.
