Theft is immoral, so no, someone who's voting for higher taxes is not equally moral as those voting for earners to retain the money they worked to earn.

That's some mighty fine flawed logic.

There is nothing moral about forcing your schemes and agendas on others. The only “moral” vote is one that allows others the freedom to make their own decisions.

Our country decided a group of elected persons determines things such as this.

Maybe "forcing schemes" refers to lobbyists.

It also refers to pandered voters. "They earned it, you eat it" puts socialist schemers into positions of authority in parts of this country while "Thou shalt not vote against thy meal ticket" ensures they remain in those positions.

Good point! What does it say when people who don't work and pay taxes vote to raise taxes on those who actually do earn it?

By the way, where does hypocrisy and denial fit on the morality scale? Is willful ignorance immoral? Does it count?

Would love to see opinions on that.

You hate trump and want an excuse to smear his supporters moral character for voting for him.

I don't hate anybody. I simply think he's a goof. That was no secret in 2016, it's been no secret for decades, and I'm sorry, but as far as I can tell, I don't share many values with those who choose to let him speak for them.

I think Trudeau is a goof and I don't share many of his values either. Good thing you live in Canada and I live in the U.S. That way we both have someone in charge that does share our values. It's a win-win.

Maybe you should write your congressman. Complaining to me about being required to pay taxes isn't going to help.
I pay them too.

We will never see this the same way. You see paying taxes as someone, maybe some individual stealing from you.
I just see them as taxes we all pay to maintain our country and it's citizens.

Morals are sooooo last century.

Time to embrace the madness.

People have been arguing about what morality even is for centuries though. Bringing it into an argument is just a good way to manipulate a situation into anything that you see fit and take advantage of logical fallacies and human emotion.

And I think you didn't read what I said.

I said quite clearly in my post that we can discuss the necessity of paying for some things with common monies.

But if we're discussing morality, taking something that is not yours by force is always theft, and voting to have another entity do it, no matter how legal it may be, still doesn't change what is actually happening. So at the end of the day, you're making an argument on shaky moral ground.

You can say until you're blue in the face that we should help others, and, guess what? I agree with you there, but I disagree that compelling people to help is a actually moral too. People need to decide to help of their own free will; many do. And it may make you feel better to think you are voting for something to be done, but you have no way of knowing if it actually is unless you directly do it yourself. So there really is no morality at all anywhere in that equation, only feelings.

The only reason you hear this morality deal is because you cannot properly demonize your rivals until you believe them evil.

I've seen this ratchet up the last few weeks, with more and more people saying that they cannot be friends with anyone who would support Trump. I guess that since I am friends with a broad political spectrum, im seeing this among my social media feeds. So its not scientific by any means.

Okay then. I didn't mean to insult you. I know how you feel about things, and you know how I feel.
We're way different. But I sincerely didn't mean to upset you or hurt your feelings.

And speaking of feelings... yeah. I have those. I noticed some people on this site throw that word at me like it's dirty and ridiculous.

It isn't. I have them. And I'm glad I do.
