Welllll, as long as you only ever look at it on an individual basis and never consider groups, dynamics, or human social behavior at all....

You can always say its "just one person" every single time it happens! Super easy way to minimize things through a combo of self deception and selective perception.

Of course, this should all go out the window immediately if its something disagreeable. In such a situation, one must construct the worst possible narrative by combining things said by different individuals and groups, regardless of veracity.

Both the right and the left have people who hate. McCain was, after all a middle-of-the-road kind of guy. I don't see how either side of this hate fest has the high ground here.

McCain receives flank from every direction.

I would say, he receives very little from left in comparison to what is coming from the right.

And the odd thing is, the comments are very closely matching too.

Well for once there is something which unites the United States.

Is criticism now hate?
Seems to be the consensus these days.
I'm sure McCain's 1st wife would testify to what a great fellow he was....

Actually, surprisingly enough, she has!

But McCain gave as good as he's getting... I don't think McCain would expect anything less. He might want a little better for his family and loved ones left behind, but I'm sure they knew what to expect as well.

In any event, McCain has met his maker and is reaping his just reward. It's all out of my hands.

I'm just wondering who Ducey is going to appoint -- the missus or Meghan...

Is criticism now hate?

the answer to that question is increasingly becoming yes these days, further inhibiting people's ability to debate without being deemed some type of _____phobe or_____ist

How about you read the hate filled forum posts here on ATS from right-wingers in any of the threads about McCain. Then make sure you respond to each and everyone of them, telling your peers how they shouldn't be so hate filled.

ETA:

"No friend of America."
"I will not miss him anymore than I miss Richard Nixon."
"glaring example of everything wrong with congress"
"sold out our nation to ISIS in Syria"
"he served the corrupt elite"
"I assume the Left will miss him more than the Right"
"He was a mass murderer. F him"
"I am sure his ex-shipmates on the Forrestal are going to arrange a 'warm' welcome for him where he is going."

Ohh no!
I failed your purity test didn't I?
How will I ever make it up?

Would one or two semesters of gender studies class be enough to rehabilitate my hateful heart?

I call it as I see it and in McCain I saw a person who promoted unjustified wars, accepted money for favors, and played his constituents like 99% of politicians. By all means virtue signal your bleeding little heart out. Meanwhile I will continue to hold people accountable for their actions.

Ever watch a professional football game and see after a while they're carrying another injured player out on a stretcher…and it makes you think about the ancient Roman arena.

Listening to this thread having each side point out the other side and neglect their own side is our new world of…

Interesting thread. The nonsense seems to be all around.

He also provided his interpretation of their dialogue by writing, “@kelliwardaz staffer: I wonder if John McCain’s trying to steal attention from Ward’s bus tour by announcing his life is coming to an end. Ward: Yup, it’s all about me.”

It goes like this:
Say something that "offends" me equals hate speech.
Criticize McCain is offensive to me.
Equals you're filled with "hate".
Good night.

And Here I thought it was going to be people on the right laying into McCain.

I was wrong.

I did like this one comment though:

Ms. Ocasio, your words were kind. I didn’t agree with John McCain on many things, but I respect his service both militarily and as a Senator.

What I am learning though, is that Socialists, based on the comments below, are apparently really bitter assholes. Good Luck with that

Yes, criticism is now hate because these hate speech is any speech you hate hearing, and no one likes hearing criticism of their own opinions and positions.

I didn't like a lot of what McCain did politically, not enough to dance on his grave.

I didn't dance on Kennedy's grave either.

On the day we die, all of us are the same, and we'd best all remember that.

I agree with the spirit of what you say but maybe we’re not all equal if we took part in causing suffering to humanity. I don’t say McCain is necessarily guilty of that but he may be (God is the judge).

Those who supported the Iraq war and other ME crimes and other actions I think have serious problems.

I wouldn’t shed one tear for George Bush considering all the evil he has done, Cheney too.

May God give them what they deserve!

I just hate what you McCain Neocon / Hillary Neolib types did slaughtering like a million people in the Middle East, while keeping US all whipped into tabloid gossip lunacy to divert our attention.

That number was debunked. it was from a failed british pollster whose methodology was flawed.

it seems McCain was an equal opportunity hated. hated by the left, hated by the right. kinda makes one wonder how he kept being elected for so many years.

it is rather sad i have only really seen one positive thing posted by one person on FB over his death. and that was personal photos of his landing in the Philippines after getting out of Viet Nam. seriously everyone else, be they left or right, including those who typically argue with each other over just about everything are all seemingly in agreement in hating him.
