Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, is in talks to plead guilty to criminal charges in a deal that would bring an end to a months-long investigation that has riled the President, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The details of the plea are still being negotiated, the sources cautioned, and talks could fall apart. The US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York is investigating Cohen for potential bank fraud, tax fraud and campaign finance violations. If talks fall apart, federal prosecutors are expected to indict Cohen.
As part of the plea deal under discussion, Cohen is not expected to cooperate with the government, one source said. However, by pleading guilty both Cohen and prosecutors would avoid the spectacle and uncertainty of a trial.
Investigators are also examining more than $20 million in loans obtained for Cohen and his family's taxi companies, The New York Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
CNN and the Times reported Sunday that investigators were finalizing criminal charges against Cohen and could announce them by the end of the month.
According to the Times, investigators are trying to determine whether Cohen misrepresented the value of his assets to obtain the loans from two financial institutions that have catered to the taxi industry. They are also scrutinizing whether he failed to properly report his income from taxi medallions to the Internal Revenue Service, the Times reported.

This part jumped out at me:

Starting a few days ago, a figure of $20 Million was being tossed around. The article mentions this.

Sounds like the real meat of the investigation was financial misdealings concerning Cohen's taxi medallions.
Sorry guys. Still no Russian collusion.

It also sounds like the Prosecutor isn't real certain on his case either. Which strikes me rather oddly, because forensic financial analysis would take that uncertainty out of the equation. Heck, with that said it sounds like maybe the prosecutor was stretching whatever statute he was prosecuting.
However, by pleading guilty both Cohen and prosecutors would avoid the spectacle and uncertainty of a trial.

After reading the article again a couple things jump out. They aren't sure if he misrepresented the value ? Ridiculous, the paperwork would be easily to subpoena. And also not sure if he failed to properly report his income ?
These would be things they'ed know, before indicting him.
Absent a quick resolution, it’s believed that prosecutors would put off a decision on how to go forward with the case until after the election in compliance with an informal Justice Department policy of avoiding bringing prosecutions that could be seen as political and influence voters.

maybe cohen doesn't want them looking too closely at those financial records lest they find more. better to plead guilty to what they think they know than to have them keep digging and discover the jackpot of all jackpots? I'm just posing a possibiity, not really sure how possible that possibiity is in reality even.
but think they've scheduled an appearance in court for around 4 pm today.

Well if he committed crimes, he should be held accountable
Now if only we could raid every politicians lawyers, think of all the plea deals we would have
But oh that’s right, only trump people get this sort of special treatment
