I have to agree with your thoughts as well. Sometimes "past heritages" isn't exactly something we want to glorify. Should the people of Germany display statues of Hitler, Rudolph Hess, etc...? Germany strictly prohibits public display of Nazi symbols. Humanity can't move on to better themselves if we have statues to remind us of our shameful past. Too many hate groups use these statues and symbols to support their hateful and racial beliefs.

Nope. Not really. As long as a better party dedicated to liberalism and Socialism would be put together afterwards. Though ultimately, I think it would be easier for the DNC to fix its own corruption and mismanagement than tearing it all down and rebuilding from scratch.

Given how far the Democrats have traveled, swapping places on so many issues with the GOP as the latter hurtles rightwards into utter lunacy, you'd be surprised how few people realize just how much it's changed.

Yeah. The GOP should evaporate, the DNC takes the GOP's place and we get an awesome new party dedicated to European styled Socialism. Then I could be an independent again!

Why?

I watched that live.

The US troops put the rope on it.

But the Iraqi's themselves pulled it down.

Iraq was hardly a bastion of freedom ,and democracy.

You mean context matters?
Huh...

Yes to some of us.

To the American Taliban it doesn't.

Incredibly, Ireland just erected statues of Barack and Michelle Obama. Why ?

It could be in celebration of two obvious Irish emigrants making good in the USA. Or, it could be the result of a "really good idea" after a long night at the pub.

So not all monuments built on slavery need abolished.

Just a fresh coat of bullsnip.

LOL. Sorry, neo. Your partisanship isn't my worldview. I'm sure you already know this.

Since you are implying that politics of the 1860's are relevant today, does that make you a Socialist because you support the GOP?

What partisan about the long sorted,EVIL history of the party of the donkey?

Created by slave owners, and STILL keeping people on plantations, STILL segregating, and STILL enslaving people for nothing more than a bumber crop of VOTES, and FREE money?

Uh, no, you have forgotten your history, the Iraqi's didn't have United State's military equipment to tie the statue to:

After a couple of hours the US Marines toppled the statue with a M88 armored recovery vehicle.

Iraq was hardly a bastion of freedom ,and democracy.

But Saddam was our pal when we were fighting the Iranians, you seem to have forgotten that, maybe the statue should have not gotten ripped down to serve as a reminder.

the ones who are actually guilty of destroying the statue should be treated as any other person who deliberately destroyed a valuable piece or property.. the political aspects of the case should be set aside and not considered. and, I do hope that this is a very valuable piece of property since it's costing someone (probably the taxpayers) somewhere around $300,000 or whatever it was to protect it!

Yeah Saddam was 'our pal' !

Iraq's hostility towards the United States as demonstrated by the 1993 assassination attempt on former President George H. W. Bush and firing on coalition aircraft enforcing the no-fly zones following the 1991 Gulf War.

What?!?!!

John browns raid and political pamphlets from like 3 people split the party between the moderates and the extremists who wanted secession.

We all know what happens when you split a party in a two party system on the eve of an election..

Irreguarless the south couldn’t secede because of some pre existing policy BEFORE THE REPUBLICANS WERE EVEN SWORN IN..

It was ALL “just in case they abolish slavery later..”

It would be the EXACT equivalent of the south seceding because hillary won or the north seceding because trump won BEFORE they were even sworn in..

Lost cause is propaganda meant for stupid people..

Yup. We hooked a brother up with all kinds of cool gear when we needed them to fight the Iranians for 8 years.

You forgot your history homeslice? What are they teaching you kids in high school these days?

I jest, you obviously didn't forget your history except when you did since we were the ones tearing the statue down despite you watching it live.

I know for a fact that it was the US Military that tore it down. They used an M88 recovery vehicle to do it with. When I was in the Army in 2003 (I was in Basic Training when Saddam was caught), my unit made a point of telling me this while showing us our unit's M88.

I guess this proves the point that statues are teaching tools. Or not.

Sorry if that offends you, but I generally try to look at the politics and beliefs of people running the country who aren't currently acting as the primary living quarters of a family of worms.

Did Mother Russia make you forget who tore the statue down? Or did the statue not being there make you forget? Or did you forget because you forgot?
