Hello ATS,

I feel that I should share the news that Kofi Annan, former United Nations secretary general and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has died at 80 years old. It's weird that celebrity deaths happen in 3's; it's a concept which almost deserves its own thread. First Aretha Franklin dies and now Kofi Anon, so who's next?

Annan was born April 8, 1938, into an elite family in Kumasi, Ghana, the son of a provincial governor and grandson of two tribal chiefs. He led the U.N. from 1997 to 2006, serving two terms as the body's Secretary General — the first to emerge from the ranks of United Nations staff. In 2001, Annan and the U.N. were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world." During his tenure, Annan presided over some of the worst failures and scandals at the world body, one of its most turbulent periods since its founding in 1945.

I've heard of corruption concerning Anon and his cohorts. However, I do not wish to speak of his faults in light of the man's death. Although, the article states that corruption ran rampant in the UN during his tenior. Should his life be celebrated or not? Do his accomplishments make him worthy of praise, and with the celebrity deaths in sets of 3 who could be next?? What does ATS think?

Sniff - I guess he's gone to sort out that great Rwandan genocide in the sky.
As in, he's gonna sit back and watch it happen.

Or as former US President Obama said when his administration was spraying the Native American protesters, and throwing flash-bomb at them in sub-zero temperatures : "We're going to let it play out for several more weeks ...".

How nail-biting.

Tom Cruise, you think so?

Well physically he still looks pretty virile for his age.

The only way I could imagine is that he has a mishap while attempting to leap on the furniture.

Hopefully not Morgan Freeman, or there's nobody left to play Kofi Annan.
A bit like the Mandela movies or Sarafina, I mean we don't have any actors and actresses in Africa.
African Americans must come all the way from the US to portray local black roles.
