The US has been using socialist policies since FDR. Americans have become accustomed to government control of nearly every facet of their lives. This poll is hardly surprising but would change drastically if people actually saw free market solutions being used. We need to ditch most of our social programs including education, let the free market handle it. Every thing will be better, cheaper and more efficient. Take trade schools vs public schools - what jobs does public education train young people for? - None. At least with trade schools one has a skill they can make a living with. And so it would go throughout society as people found free market choices making for better end results across the board.

A free market does not and cannot exist within the constitutional republic we have.

In fact, a free market cannot exist in any form of government.

Democrats prefer socialism until they find out they are the one's who have to pay for it.... they always assume some unknown "rich guy" is the one who is going to be footing the bill.

I'm curious, do you actually believe this?

Yes. Next question....

The next question would be, don't you find this expression rather simplistic? A little too simplistic perhaps?

Not really. If you watch Democrats it is always a "do as a I say, not as I do..." type of attitude. You get all this "tax the rich" talk but then liberals turn around and try to minimize their own taxes.

Here is a really good example of what I am talking about. In this clip, Dinesh D'Souza is debating with a college student. The college student is going on about "white priviledge", etc. Dinesh brilliant ask him why he doesn't give up his seat at his prestigious college so someone with less opportunity can attend.

Only it's not really a brilliant point, it's a fairly obviously stupid point.

There is no such thing as a 100% free market other than third world bazaars. However, markets can be largely unencumbered allowing free flow of goods and competition. Despite what liberals think, most individuals are rational and can make their own decisions.

The biggest issue is that regulation often tends slow creep where it starts stifling innovation and markets. In addition, socialist type policies can also have other unintended consequences when it comes to consumer / public behavior that can be worse than the ill government was originally trying to prevent.

A good example of this is how single motherhood exploded with the advent of welfare and policies keeping men out of the home. The intention was good, but the actual results devastating. Policy planners incorrectly looked at the incentives.

A point that you actually didn't refute, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

Again, liberals love do as I say, not as I do when it comes to their policies.

Aynone tell me where the free market part is in universal healthcare, and GUN CONTROL,CLIMATE CONTROL, and regulating both people, and business out of existence?

Not to mention the manipulation of fiat currency through the Federal Reserve.

Yes because the middle class here is growing so rapidly...

Or in anarchist societies. And what you say about markets being largely unencumbered is also true, but it is not a free market and once that is recognized and put in perspective, the idea the member I was responding to seem a bit naive.

Despite what liberals think, most individuals are rational and can make their own decisions.

Pure hyperbolic nonsense. You are just making up partisan bs.

It also stops people from being taken advantage of. We have to have a good mix of regulation and commercial freedom.

Single motherhood, or kids born out of wedlock, has been on the rise for decades. It has very little to do with welfare and has to do with societal changes.

It's a stupid point because students can't give up their place to someone less privileged.

It's even more stupid because disagreeing with elements of the system is not the same as wanting to put on a hair shirt and go live in a cave.

It's ridiculously stupid because if everyone who did disagree with any part of the system gave up all the benefits of the system, the only ones left with power & money are the sociopaths who unequivocally support the system.

Of course just my opinion.

Here is the actual Gallup source:

news.gallup.com...

Socialism is not "Hard Left" as our OP opines.

It is part and parcel of contempory economics whether it be socialism on behalf of Vast Corporate interests or the interests of "We The People"

Here is an interesting chart - note the 'Republican' numbers - at their highest during the Obama administration.

Taken from above reference.

You're right a truly "free" market can't exist.
It's a goal like perfection to work towards.
The less red tape, regulation and obstruction the more value can be created.
Reducing the entropy in the system.
Create the "free-est" market possible.

As I've stated before, I am not against all socialist policies. As long as we are guarded and understand the dangers of letting it run rampant just as previous socialists like FDR and Bobby Kennedy understood.

What bothers me here is that these people don't even understand what they're asking for.

They're being told that they need to implement x and y because of boogeyman billionaires and megacorporations. But those billionaires and megacorporations aren't the ones that are going to be paying for x and y - they are. The already put upon, disappearing middle class is going to be milked and the money is going to go to a group of charlatans and psychopaths that have already proven ad nauseam that they are either too corrupt or too inept to effectively run these programs. That is the issue here.

The billionaires and megacorporations are in actuality irrelevant to the socialist argument. The focus should be squarely on which party the money (and power) will be going to. The fact that they are not even being truthful about where the money will actually be coming from should be an enormous red flag.

The so-called progressive leaders are frauds. You're being took for a ride.

There's plenty of information on the internet or in a library. The Soviet Union collapsed on the 25th December 1991 in part due to Western military spending that Russia couldn't keep up with. Lots more to it but that'll give you a head start. The fall of the Soviet Union was effectively the end of Russian Communism. It's evolved into a federal state and adopted aspects if "Western" governments.

China is a different beast entirely. Chinese Communism didn't die it evolved, it's the economic capabilities that's the problem with China and how that equates to militaristic, scientific and social dominance. They're on their way in regards to this... Not so much an ideological enemy as an economical one.

China didn't occupy half if Europe after WWII either so there's that, after all it's Europe that is significant ally/allies to the USA. Look up NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) not saying China hasn't occupied nations because they have, we were all too busy with scary Russians

I've said before, at some point in the near future we'll have to look at a socialism type of economic system or trade/barter once we move into the post-occupational Era. Caused by automation and AI.

But we are not at the point yet, and trying to force it will just lead to collapsing the economy and more unrest and wars.

I do not think we will ever see a purely socialist economic system. It is vital that we have a mixed economy.

Have you been in a socialist country, I mean living not like a tourist ?

Yes. I am citizen of the US.

Been working just fine.

That wasn't my question.

I know what your question was. Perhaps the answer went over your head.

Think about it for a few.

Yeah, but I want you to say it.

Did you come from a sort of a socialist country to USA ?

What part of the $21 trillion debt did you miss?

The biggest creation of that debt is that fabulous socialism.

BS... 19 trillion of that is in personal debt. Mostly mortgages and student loans.

This is what we have always known is it not?

The Kennedy democrats, and southern democrats have moved farther to the center, while the rest of the democrat party has swung wildly to the left.

The traditional, or even blue dog democrats arent any happier about this direction that conservatives and the right are.

Universal health care will be significantly cheaper but it cuts out the middle man(insurance companies) so it gets lobbied against and demonized.

Well and some of the other horrible things in China and their Communism like:

1. Banning of bibles, and instating a state religion that is strictly adhered to , they've killed many Christians in china for practicing their faith.

2. You Need A Ticket To Go To The Doctor-

Anyone seeking medical care in China must first obtain a registration ticket to see the doctor, which is often impossible thanks to the hundreds of scalpers who snatch them up an unscrupulous criminal boatloads of money for a ticket.

But even getting one of these tickets doesn't guarantee much more than one doctor's appointment. For a lengthy or complicated disease that requires many visits or consultations, the official solution is literally "Get back in line."

3.No One Owns The Land They Live On-You might own your house but not the land, if you want to sell your house, and your "lease of land" to the gov has expired, you have to pay off the gov first before you can even sell your house.

4.Pornography Is Absolutely Forbidden- some may see this as a good thing and thats perspective, but the reality is if you get caught sharing or making it, theyll throw your butt in prison for a nice lengthy stay.

5.The Food Is Basically Poison-

China isn't known for food safety regulations that are well-enforced or even exist, which regularly results in some horrifying news stories

And don't think something simple like an egg is any safer, because Chinese shoppers also have to be careful that they're buying real eggs. Yes, there's a serious problem with people selling fake eggs in China. And we don't mean "fake" in the sense of the vaguely egg-like substance found on a standard McMuffin. We're talking about cruel egg decoys slapped together with starch and resin.

In 2009, six children died and nearly 300,000 others fell ill after drinking milk containing melamine, a chemical typically used in the development of plastic that a company was adding to its milk batches in order to trick quality control tests.

-
6. They'll literally execute you for damn near anything

7. The internet is totally controlled by the gov, normal everyday people dont get to surf the internet anywhere NEAR like we do here in the states.

8.Freedom of speech? Forget about it.

And this isnt even scratching the surface

So as much as people would like to hold up China as a bastion of just how great Communism can be, its really a communist hell hole, and the only reason its even WORKING is because they exert total , and absolute control at the point of a sword.
