Well, he certainly wins on damage, I'll concede that, it was a $40,000,000 aircraft.

But an RV getting squashed is just so much more pleasing to my aesthetic eye.

Anyone can figure out a tanks controls in 5 minutes experimenting, but plane with no prior experience is impressive.

He was in Operations, many of those people regularly start up aircraft as part of their jobs. My buddy works maintenance for United in Newark and I've been down there when he's started up several aircraft more complex than this one.

Got ya

...still though, take-off is a whole other thing.

Take off is easy, landing is the bitch part.

Ah fair enough, I've never flown any type of plane so wouldn't know.
I did see the transcript of his chat with air traffic control though, he said he hadn't planned on landing.
Good he didn't kill anyone else, and meh about the plane, no children will starve as a result of that plane costing millions being wrecked, just a corporate bee sting in financial terms.

I wish he landed on an RV.

Haha you and that RV!
I remember tankman doing it on TV news in the UK, but plane guy's roll just above the water was more impressive in my opinion, tank guy's stats wouldn't cut it in the card game.
Plane Guy for the win.

What if he landed on an RV factory?

Aw, no I'd feel sorry for the folks who might lose work if the factory was destroyed, but if he'd hit an empty RV parked on that island I'd be impressed to see the footage.

Well the cat pulled off a full barell roll 20000 feet below factory parameters and still managed to pull out of the ensuing dive of death....so i gotta go with plane guy.

Remember some 20 odd years ago a 'helper' in an airport convinced his family he was a pilot and took them for a ride in a twin Cessna, nobody survived

Sounds like he had the throttle maxed, probably didn't adjust/feather the props either...no wonder he was burning fuel so fast. Poor guy, sounds like nothing is wrong with him by the way he is talking aside from wanting to go see the grieving orca mom.

Dude pleeeze. A fiat 500 could smash an rv. You reinvent the envelope for an aircraft to do a barrel roll. We are talking wirld record here. Need to ring guiness up. Gotta be a record.

F-15 "pilots kept plane out of harms way and people on ground safe," the sheriff's office tweeted. The jets were not involved in the crash, it said.

The man seemed to flying where ever he wanted to go.

How did the jets accomplish this?

They pushed him out to sea and away from the city. He was doing whatever he wanted, but he was doing it where they wanted him to be.

I am a bit surprised it worked with him. Maybe just natural reaction to keep his joy ride going.

But then he didn't sound like he wanted to intentionally hurt a lot a innocent people on the ground.

It does seem that he didn't want to hurt anyone but himself, which was good. It's sad that he died the way he did, but at least no one else was involved.

San Diego is still number one, on the grounds of sheer property damage.

I felt sorry for the cops who had to kill him, though.

This guy though, for sheer imagination...
