Yeah it sucks that they disrespect the constitution upon which our very society was founded. One of the things that kept us free as individuals. Free thinking. Free to do something great for the nation. Whether you realize it or not, we as the people of this nation are not free now.

Maybe both sides can come into agreement on that.

Unlikely.
Conservatives have stayed the same, just expecting existing laws to be enforced.

The Left has gone full LUNATIC, demanding laws be ignored, not by democratic votes/repeal but under threat of violence from Antifa thugs.

They only want the "appearance" of democracy for legitimacy - witness Hillary's rigging of a Primary.
The left wants nothing less than TOTAL CONTROL.

This snip is truly frightening.

Our ideal should be a strong federal government powered by a proportionally electedunicameral legislature. But intermediary steps toward that vision can be taken by abolishing the filibuster, establishing federal control over elections and developing a simpler way to amend the Constitution through national referendum.

Yes, and the majority of the population eats it up. They can't think for themselves and just let themselves be completely bamboozled by the a-holes behind the "news." That's what's even more frightening.

Scary indeed.

Always be ready. That's my philosophy. BJJ, Thai boxing weapon training survival skills I actively forage for food

Skills I will pass on to kids if I have any

IMO, perhaps we should just let the socialists have what they want. Sometimes people just have to learn the hard way. Of course global socialism (combined with the unchecked breeding that has overpopulated the planet already) would be a humanitarian disaster but it would be one for the history books. Right?

This is why even if I wanted to be neutral or independent I can’t be. It’s not that I love Republicans, but I can’t stand Leftists. They are a danger to our country.

The irony is if they hadn't pushed the federal government's nose under every tent flap under the sun, they wouldn't have to worry about not holding the reins of the draconian federal government.

Pure propaganda to radicalize a certain segment of the population. NYT should be ashamed of themselves and so should anyone who buys into their double-edged rhetoric.

The military swears an oath to defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic
Notice that word "domestic"
I don't want to say it , yet it is getting about that time the US military stopped being the military arm of the UN and start doing what they are sworn in to do
The NYT article was a direct attack on the Constitution more so than even the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Well, regardless of the rhetoric. They want to start something like a coup or a revolution via physical violence, I will be ready with my side arm and rifle. Liberty or death.

It does make it hard. But in the end, when the country collapses, it's nice to know I might find guys like you wandering the wasteland.

I wouldn't count the chickens just yet. There is a middle now that is larger than the Alt of both sides. The problem is that the alt seems to be the only news people pay attention to anymore.

If people really want to know why this nation has turned into the society it has become, they would read George Will's take on what is happening. I don't agree with everything Will believes, but the man does know his history of politics and the results of the decisions of past leaders.

I think you mean the Alt left only want total control as I believe they are represented among their leaders in seats of power. And you are right. As does the Alt right, and most of the other Political identies jockying for power over the nation. For every government in history has moved forward through revolution, or war.

Coming back to this, it's an interesting point.

I'm a non partisan middle of the roader. It's less about embracing the right as it is about despising the recent actions of the left. I embrace policies from both sides. But right now, the left is driving away anyone who's even remotely moderate. They need to be more careful about their tactics if they want sane moderates to have a chance of supporting their side.

Meagan Day and Bhaskar Sunkara.

The writers of what ( I hope) is obviously a trolling article.

I have liberal friends that don't think like this.

I don't know anyone outside of the writers of this article that think this way.

These people are crazy.

Right or left we all agree that the constitution is not a relic. After 230 years it stands as one of the best made documents ever created. Even if it were to be destroyed. It has caused irreversible change in humanity because of the ideas that piece of paper represents.

Those of you saying this article is how the left really feels. You don't know the left the way you think you do. My friends on the left love our constitution and feel like it is the ONE thing keeping trump in check right now.The left wants to do things that bring the constitution back to what it was before bush jr. Namely by deleting the patriot act.

The people that wrote this are not representative of the left as a whole. Maybe some far far crazy area of the left?

I wouldn't say that the far far right represents the majority of it. I am not going to do that to left in this case ether.

This is my hope.

Both parties are chasing people away . Let's hope they all gather in the middle instead of going over to the other side.

You act like the left gets marching orders from the NYT.

That is the propaganda that the right wants you to believe.

Don't fall for it.

The left is made up of many different kinds of people and ideas.
