So the internet is filled with fake opinions now, this is why reality is being distorted and people are getting surprised.

It is very clear narratives continue to be pushed at every intersection of public interest, social media and the regular news, but bots can do only so much. Real people are disrupting them, even 20 thousand active posters can cause an issue. The reaction, bans and shadows ban so that the bots can win. That's why all these Twitter bans and YouTube bans are of concern, they can't win against all the real people so they just silence them all with bans.

This will eventually lead to the bots having the overwhelming opinion online creating false pressure on whatever issue they are trying to maneuver and direct public opinion to feel on the topic they are trying to influence.

Once the dust settles, we will be surprised at how deep the deception goes. Not only with soc media, but with main stream media.

We are being lied to, and it is because our press is no longer "free". It is owned.

The media's are privately owned corporations by the stockholders. It's called capitalism.

Do you want a state controlled media, like China?

Media consolidation is a huge problem. The story I posted explains. Some (perhaps you) are not willing to see that the free press was not intended to be a commodity. But that is where we are.

This may be a good time to stop letting social media guide your thinking? Or google.

Likes: 3,999,888 Dislikes:1,998,000,000 The topic doesn't seem to matter. The dislikes win, so I'll dislike it, too. What ever it is.

We see it constantly, from all sides. When asked why, many, if not most, supporters are unable, not unwilling, but unable to articulate in any meaningful manner.

Does google try to arrange matters/information in such a way as to guide their users to where they want them to go? Wouldn't, or rather doesn't, surprise me in the slightest.

Please. Allowing what has happened is giving us "privatized State media".

This control of the media is to control information.
Maybe your view on corps cross owning say, manufacturing and media is just because media is a good investment. But I contend it is about controlling info that comes to light about the corp's manufacturing. Hiding environmental damage-allowing only good stories.....

Information is power and controlling it is very profitable.

In 1983, Ben Bagdikian published his groundbreaking book, The Media Monopoly, which revealed that just 50 corporations owned 90 percent of the media.
billmoyers.com...

That number gradually dwindled over the coming 13 years and was accelerated by the Telecommunications Act. This has led us to the aforementioned crisis where more than 90 percent of the media is owned by just six companies: Viacom, News Corporation, Comcast, CBS, Time Warner and Disney.

What's the difference, exactly? We currently face extreme levels of sophisticated internet censorship, especially from outlets like Facebook, Google, Youtube, Twitter and Reddit, to name a few. They use algorithms designed to hide the content they don't want people to see, e.g. the political, religious and social ideas those who control those companies don't agree with, while doing the same to push their personal opinions onto you, the consumer. If you express the "wrong" opinion in the wrong place, you may be subjected to extreme levels of harassment, with people from around the country being rallied against you simply for speaking your mind.
The MSM outlets are free to lie, spin and deceive in a coordinated attempt to manipulate people across the entire country, which they are succeeding in doing. Why do you think so many people were absolutely shocked when Hillary lost the election? Because the MSM outlets they got their information from actively hid from them the fact that Trump actually had a ton of support. They actively presented the idea that Hillary was way more popular and would, without a doubt, win the election. They did this in an attempt to make Trump look unappealing to vote for. What some of the MSM outlets are doing is sedition.

So... How would state controlled media be any different? It wouldn't. Whether the media is controlled by a mega-corporation or a government, it's all the same manipulation and censorship and lies. It's the exact same thing. As a matter of fact, maybe state controlled media is better, simply because then more people would know they're being manipulated instead of just assuming everything they see is honest.
I don't think the media should be owned by any corporation that stands to benefit by using it to manipulate people. The media should be about providing honest news, not pushing political ideology or attempting to subvert the government.

People blinded by a "perverted" free market are making the mistake of trusting without verifying.
It isn't there fault, we are conditioned in school to sit and listen-then regurgitate facts. And it continues through life.

Many here refuse to totally fit the mold and do use deductive reasoning. There are many problems that are allowed to go on because people refuse to think.

This is sickening. The SEC may say what Google is allegedly doing is illegal, but from what I understand they are protected to do pretty much as they please since all of these tech companies have agreements with the Gov.

Google, FaceBook, Twitter, Youtube, Amazon etc. are all extensions of Intelligence Agencies at this point. And they are undermining our constitutional republic

When capitalism, turns in to a corporate oligarchy and the profit motive is the primary influence in a society/culture. And the international banking cartel destroyed supply and demand economics...

What would you expect to happen. They have the influence and money to basically control everything.

What are you going to do about it!!

If enough whine fests are started on ATS, perhaps the oligarchs will eventually pay attention....

We do not need state ownership of media. We need state regulation.

The way ownership of most sources of information is held by too few boardrooms has to be in violation of antitrust laws.

Beyond competition in business, the public needs to be able to have faith in the integrity of the press that informs them. This current scheme doesnt protect us from outright lies and propaganda.

Pushing propaganda is a counterproductive excercise in the long run.

No it isn't...

Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria were all driven by US faux patriotic propaganda. I fell for it and served thinking I was protecting the homeland.

Watch the media roll out the red white and blue, patriotic music before the next war starts. It's an old pattern, but it works every time.
