Way back in the mid-80s I once partied with Alanis and her crew from 'You Can't Do That on Television' in Ottawa in the forest behind my highschool. It was a bush bash. I was 15, she was 17, maybe 18. She and crew just suddenly popped out of seemingly nowhere.

My highschool buddies and I, both male and female, were sitting around the bondfire minding our own business when, we were all taken by suprise. Something came crashing through the surrounding woods, through the darkness enveloping our fire.

At first we thought we were being raided by the cops.

It all happened so fast.

One guy emerges out of the woods, a soldier, bleeding, screaming for his life, persued by a second guy who obviously was the protagonist in this real-life drama/skit, seeking to subdue the bleeding soldier.

Then a bunch of other kids came out of the woods, singing and dancing. It was the weirdest thing ever.

When their little skit was over, they introduced themselves to us. They were the kids from a TV show called 'You Can't Do That on Television'. They were absolutely amazing.

They were recruiting new talent, they said.

When things calmed down, we all sat around the campfire, sharing laughs and beers and stories. I soon learned who was the attractive young woman was who sat down beside me; at the time, she wasn't anywhere near famous but, her name was Alanis and she was a crew member. She was very quiet and shy, but we got along just fine.

I have a theory, cannot confirm, that JA walked out of the embassy through the front door some time ago. No one noticed.
