You are aware that someone has discovered disaparaging remarks that Einstein made about Asians in his private diary recently? Right? Clearly Einstein
was racist, and this person feels that erases all the good things Einstein has ever done, and we ought not honor Einstein for anything because of
This is the problem.
People are so busy purging people based on the perceived wrongs of the past. They are judging the past through the present lens of present mores. They
aren't considering that the past was a different time with different mores. People who lived in those days ought to be judged through the lens of
Who knows who and what Stephen F. Austin would have been like had be been born and raised in the environment of today. For all anyone knows, he might
have been a tower of the leftist order, but he wasn't born and raised today by today's mores. He was born and raised in the past. All of this pearl
clutching of today is really a reaction to our discomfort over the realities of the past and upset over what happened then and what those days were
In short, we are hating on our own history because it's not politically correct. We are hating on the idea that the great people of the past did
things that are unacceptable by today's standards, but today was not then. And times and beliefs then were different. Too many today don't make any
effort to understand that, and they don't make any effort to understand that if they lived them, they'd be completely different people themselves.
The other problem, going back to Einstein, is that it's very easy to look at people who actually did things, real difficult things in their lives and
pick out the dark spots and tear them down for it. That requires no real effort or achievement on your part, but it does make you feel superior to
them without you having to actually achieve anything of actual value. You can tear down an Einstein if you can spot the hidden racist. No actual
theoretical physics needed, and suddenly, you're better then one of the best theoretical physicists ever! It's an easy way to look big and important
without producing anything yourself that's of any real value to anyone.
Yeah, George Washington fought a war and founded a new country ... but he once owned slaves and was a racist. I never did that, so I'm better than him
even as I live in my parents' basement and don't do anything. *puffs out chest and feels superior to someone who did actual tough stuff in
