Wait...but didn't the Enterprise have a logical member on board? The analogy breaks down right there.

Greed and selfishness are not traits any species should have.

But that is how it is.

Nature has made the rules and the rules say species compete for survival.

Then what- I'm not natural? How about others? We're somehow not of this planet or something?

Opinions vary on the truthfulness of this- but what about the idea behind it? Is it also unnatural?

message.snopes.com...

Not only that- but we're supposedly more intelligent than to revert back to 'nature' on a whim.

We're higher up the evolutionary ladder than most animals. How's about we actually show it for once, instead of trying to kill each other for green slips of paper and soft metals?

Clickbait title much?

Honestly I have no idea how the title of this thread has anything to do with the OP.

Within Star Trek they have complex philosophies around inter-species relations, stuff like the prime directive preventing developed species interacting with less developed species and various treaties. Within Star Trek its hardly a utopia, lots of war, racism, suffering all that good stuff.

Its a fictional world, but following the way that universe works it seems like Humanity gets on rather well for the most part.

I wonder if this thread is about Star Trek or bashing liberalism as possibly brining about the end of the human race though?

Just get a sense if humour and go with it.

It's a simple premise.

If we encounter aliens, what political stance do we take?

You don't have make everything so bloody seriously.

What is the dominate species in the universe ?

Answer ain't humans.

We don't know.

If human beings are the dominate species in this ecosystem which is a small part of a larger one(galaxy) then Universe.

Social engineering ain't gonna save you from WHATEVER the dominate species is.

The definition of liberal party is highly debatable. It is defined as a political party that adheres to the basic principles of political liberalism. This is a broad political current, including left-wing, centrist and right-wing elements. All liberal parties emphasise individual rights, but they differ in their opinion on an active role for the state. This list includes parties of different character, ranging from classical liberalism to social liberalism, conservative liberalism to national liberalism.

According to Carl Sagan the nearest star system would more than likely hear from us via Hitlers propaganda speeches, so the liberals get off the hook.

I'm more worried about all the porn, in fifty years aliens could be disgusted by our filthy mating rituals-'oh come on that doesn't belong in there! and why is that female sharing a glass of feces with another female? if I wanted to dry reach i'd watch the coverage of the 2016 election again.'

Our politicians aren't the greatest of Earths Ambassadors, which could be another indication of why Fermi's Paradox could be more accurate than first believed.

For all we know alien porno could be on its way here.

Seti first signal could be a alien version of 2 girls and 1 cup. 2 blergs and 1 gort

And we might end up watching the 1921 beta reticuli elections.

Yeah this thread isn't about a serious definition of liberalism.

It's about if we encounter aliens do we all go hippy pacifist and multi species accepting or wipe out the alien bastards?

That depends on if they trying anal probe us.

Then the obvious answer is obvious. It's on like the Wrath of Khan!

This OP does raise an interesting question that just might be somewhat related to Star Trek.

Globalism as being advanced from the U.S. side of things needs tools from both tool boxes (and I don't use the term "tools" without irony) with those "boxes" being Republican & Democrat and in the process creates "the swamp" which comes in both red & blue.

Progressivism--they hope--is its last stage of transformation. The practice of predictive programming is real and Star Trek might be a modern example.

Gene's circle of friends was an eclectic mix to include members of the intelligence community and new age circles.

Here Gene Roddenberry starts out the questioning of The Council of Nine---which they took very seriously.

I wouldn't take "The Nine" too seriously myself, but I submit that digging into Gene and the people & things swirling around him suggests we just might be being socially engineered into a global world order.

A little on its influence:

This should concern us, because many influential people attended The Nine’s Esalen seminars, including Russians who were part of the Institute’s Soviet Exchange program. Some of these later rose to prominence in the Gorbachev regime and were instrumental in the downfall of Communism. (The Esalen Institute now runs the US branch of the Gorbachev Foundation.)

I wouldn't have one. HOWEVER... the political stance of those who seem to 'own' me... now that could cause problems. I seriously doubt my grinning like a doofus as I gleefully board a ship would be taken lightly by TPTB.

The answer is to both parts , could we live in peace with an Alien civilisation ? .... Probably not.
Would such liberal attitudes get us wiped out? ... Probably not , best to have an olive branch than a sword in hand when dealing with a civilisation far in advance of your own.

If they do visit they will set the agenda , if they want to eat us then they will eat us , not much we could do about it.

The premise is flawed. We're talking about an extinction event. The herd would pull together. We'd do what we had to do to survive. That isn't any political bent. That's Darwin at work.

Depends on what you mean by "liberal".

If you mean a free secular society, where rights are based on being a human being and citizenship, well thats about the only viable way towards world peace (which doesnt involve a one world government dictatorship).

Then there's this other thing that calls itself "liberal", this party called "Democrat", that obsesses about wedge issues and hierarchical tribalism, that is better described as "Progressive", where to it rights are based on what group you fall into. This is a mindset of constant internal conflict, and external conflict as this scene has made wide open borders and never ending mass flux of migration its platform (outside of raw tribalism). To this sort all that is traditional is to be shunned (such as national heritage), while essentially all that is taboo and deviant is to be rampantly embraced, so much so we've already been seeing a trend towards embracing literal cannibalism and pedophilia...

That sort I see as the surest route total extinction, not as rapidly as a giant meteor, but more effective than one.

Alien hoobajoo? Pointless to waste time thinking about. Although we're about to have "aliens", the Transhumanists are getting closer and closer to their technological goals of rabid augmentation. They cannot gain their goals fast enough.Even though we're nowhere near being culturally evolved -above and beyond the dark sides of our nature- to be in a position to do this and not see the war to end all wars (for real this time). And that time is coming sooner than anybody thinks.

And it will be the "Progressives" spearheading this looming shift. They already are and almost none of them know it.

That's if they meet us before we meet them.

We could be the first one in our galactic region to develop interstellar travel.

I think aliens would pretty much unite us as a species.
Earth politics would be a dam sight more easier.

The problem is foreign policy and what a gender we adopt.

Are we inclusive to aliens and give them all equal rights? Only some? Or do we adopt a extreme xenophobia stance?
Is slavery and explotation of "lesser" beings Ok? Personaly I would say no to slavery or explotation on even semi sentient species, but I would not go as far as equal rights for all.

You think a bit of global warming is going to look like the John Cusack "2012" disaster movie?
