Greed and selfishness are not traits any species should have.
But that is how it is.
Nature has made the rules and the rules say species compete for survival.

Clickbait title much?
Honestly I have no idea how the title of this thread has anything to do with the OP.
Within Star Trek they have complex philosophies around inter-species relations, stuff like the prime directive preventing developed species interacting with less developed species and various treaties. Within Star Trek its hardly a utopia, lots of war, racism, suffering all that good stuff.
Its a fictional world, but following the way that universe works it seems like Humanity gets on rather well for the most part.
I wonder if this thread is about Star Trek or bashing liberalism as possibly brining about the end of the human race though?

According to Carl Sagan the nearest star system would more than likely hear from us via Hitlers propaganda speeches, so the liberals get off the hook.
I'm more worried about all the porn, in fifty years aliens could be disgusted by our filthy mating rituals-'oh come on that doesn't belong in there! and why is that female sharing a glass of feces with another female? if I wanted to dry reach i'd watch the coverage of the 2016 election again.'
Our politicians aren't the greatest of Earths Ambassadors, which could be another indication of why Fermi's Paradox could be more accurate than first believed.

What is the dominate species in the universe ?
Answer ain't humans.
We don't know.
If human beings are the dominate species in this ecosystem which is a small part of a larger one(galaxy) then Universe.
Social engineering ain't gonna save you from WHATEVER the dominate species is.

The definition of liberal party is highly debatable. It is defined as a political party that adheres to the basic principles of political liberalism. This is a broad political current, including left-wing, centrist and right-wing elements. All liberal parties emphasise individual rights, but they differ in their opinion on an active role for the state. This list includes parties of different character, ranging from classical liberalism to social liberalism, conservative liberalism to national liberalism.
It's about if we encounter aliens do we all go hippy pacifist and multi species accepting or wipe out the alien bastards?
This should concern us, because many influential people attended The Nine’s Esalen seminars, including Russians who were part of the Institute’s Soviet Exchange program. Some of these later rose to prominence in the Gorbachev regime and were instrumental in the downfall of Communism. (The Esalen Institute now runs the US branch of the Gorbachev Foundation.)

The answer is to both parts , could we live in peace with an Alien civilisation ? .... Probably not.
Would such liberal attitudes get us wiped out? ... Probably not , best to have an olive branch than a sword in hand when dealing with a civilisation far in advance of your own.
If they do visit they will set the agenda , if they want to eat us then they will eat us , not much we could do about it.

The premise is flawed. We're talking about an extinction event. The herd would pull together. We'd do what we had to do to survive. That isn't any political bent. That's Darwin at work.
