I tell you what, if we get rid of all those illegal immigrants there will be 20 MILLION job openings and THAT ALONE will fix the wage issue because with the lack of workers they would have to offer more money.

No it won't. If you're competing for jobs with illegals who are mostly uneducated, and a good chunk of them don't speak English, you're not performing high quality labor that's going to demand a premium price in the first place.

Yeah if only that’s all they did. They are into everything. Plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, all the used to be good paying trades are paying shhht right now because of this.

Maybe those tradesmen should take it on themselves to switch jobs into something more competitive then?

so what?

so expanding government and increasing taxes on corporations (passed off to the consumer causing inflation) isn't going to solve the problem

returning power to the people (by decreasing taxes putting the money back in the consumers hands) and decoupling the relationship between government and enterprise is the solution

you guys fundamentally get every economic solution WRONG

That's why companies dropped their prices after the 14% tax cut, right? Wrong. Prices are still the same everywhere.

A proper tax cut starts from the bottom up. You cut taxes on those making less which are, in turn, those that usually spend more of their wage and save less. Those people start buying more goods, which drives the need for more jobs. If you first cut taxes on the higher breaks / companies you will get people hoarding more money and companies paying out more dividends.

Trump could have given a substantial tax cut to the lower brackets and then cut the rest a couple of years later.

Yikes, this has too many stars.

The bottom 45% already don’t pay federal income tax. It’s hard to cut from 0 or less than 0.

The top 20% pay 87%, so they’ll get the most benefits from a tax cut. It’s just how a progressive tax system works.

perhaps all the newly created jobs are entry level and at the bottom of the wage scale.

wouldn't take much to pull the AVERAGE down

Entry level jobs are for people with no skills. That suggests Americans don't have the necessary trained labor to compete in a global market.

If you are correct, that is extremely bad news for us looking to the next couple decades.

Now, I may have you confused for another poster, but aren't you the carpenter getting out of the business & switching to something else because it isn't paying the bills anymore?

If I've got the right guy here, don't get mad at Aaz for the trade's failings.

how is that relevant to what he's saying? it's not.. what I'm doing is totally irelevant his opinion is ignorant and rude. there's millions of people in the trade who are being affected by his holier than thou attitude for the elite left who are pushing this illegal immigration # down our throats

also, mind your damn business

I don’t believe this.
Be reasonable, do any of you personally know anyone who has had a reduction in wages? We are paying the highest wages ever, just trying to lure in good employees without creating a moral issue with existing staff. It’s a big win for workers nationwide.

Yes, my take home went down this year. I'm still paid well, but I took about a 5% hit in increased benefits costs and I took another 3.5% hit due to inflation, my company does not give annual raises. Overall, I'm making about 92% of what I made last year.

for a real look at wages check this out

I would much rather have government involved in my life, where I can talk to my representatives, and vote them out if I disagree with them, than rely on private corporations where I have zero say in how they act.

Clearly not the US if we're not paying them very much. Leave the profession and wages will rise for the rest if it's deemed valuable enough.

Supply and demand.

It's totally ridiculous that people who can't compete are trying to kick others out of the market rather than looking inward and improving themselves so that they can compete elsewhere.

Why are you leaving the trade instead of doubling down on it to reinvent it & keep it relevant? That's what it has to do with his comment.

Edit: That's muddled at best, sorry. I went opposite of his suggestion, which was to get out of the trade for greener pastures. You're kind of doing that. Others would suggest getting IN to the trades, but you're proving it's no solid bet anymore. Hence adapt (reinvent) or die off, is that making any sense?

That's great. But if the wages aren't there for those skills, then they're not worth very much right? I'm really good at Magic: the Gathering, but at any given tournament there's 1000 other people trying to win the event and only ~16 participants will even get their money back much less make a profit. If I want to consistently be one of those 16, doesn't it make sense that I focus on making myself better rather than starting a campaign to allow fewer people into the event?

If those out of work tradesmen had competitive skills right now, they would be the ones with the jobs rather than the illegals who are at social, personal, financial, legal, and cultural disadvantages,

You argue against me, yet in your personal life you're doing just that and pivoting from being a tradesman to an IT person.

This is also where having an education comes in handy, if you've got the general education foundation down, then you can leverage that plus previous jobs to pivot into a new sector with minimal hassle.

If all you know how to do though is swing a hammer... you're going to have problems.

But, that's the society we live in. We like to punish people for making poor choices rather than doing the smart thing and supporting people while they reeducate.

Higher taxes results in better systems such as state sponsored health care, better transportation infrastructure, cheaper utilities, and better education. This in turn reduces costs to society over time, resulting in higher take home pay.

yes, I'm also not doing it for financial reasons

also I'm not a 45 year old with a family or a 35 year with a family, that isn't an excuse for being totally dismissive with incredibly hardworking people who literally build our nation

LITERALLY build it

stealing money from people isn't going to solve the fundamental problems of a kleptocracy and corruption

taking power away from government will, putting money back into the hands of the people will empower those people

Really? How much power do the large technology companies have? I would wager they have more power than the federal government.

And unlike with the feds, you can't vote to change anything.
