Marco is a ridiculous drummer.

Guthrie and Bryan say they just do their best to keep up with him which i am sure is not all together true but the point is he is a monster.

keep in mind he is a bit goofy. gotta love him wearing a cookie monster shirt when he auditioned for dream theater.

anyway

the pattern starts at 2:20. before that he is just explaining what he is doing but we dont have the codex so who the hell knows but him?

Here's one of my 'trademark' independence patterns. It's that ol' 9-tuplet feet pattern with a left hand triplet and a right hand pyramid pattern on top. Voila :-). --MM

What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians all the time...

... a drummer.

This is going back a few years but there are not many drummers today that can hold a candle to Buddy Rich’s technique.
I have played the drums off and on for 40 years and if I was 1/10 of the drummer Rich was, I would be extremely happy.
