No, it means that any earnings through leases or profit on his buildings or hotels, if the money comes from other governments, for example, is seen as profit, even if it is at base value. Any earnings are considered gifts. So, I haven't read about this enough to know how this applies to guests staying in hotels or if it's just the Bank of China that leases floors in his buildings, or Germany and so on. It could be just countries or could be down to individuals. I can update you once I find out.
The way to avoid this situation would have been to divest all his interests and ownership into a blind trust, as an example.

I agree. I would bet everything I have that a Trump hotel is better than a Motel 6.

Didn't the Clintons charge the secret service rent at their home ?
Is this different?

For someone who claims to dislike both sides, you sure do focus ALOT of attention on Trump.
And? Who is in charge of every part of the government and is making the news for corruption pretty much daily?

Does it matter?
Obama violated the emolument clause and no one batted an eye.

We're being charged for him staying at his own properties to golf (which he's done 53 times -- that's about a year's worth of weekends) and eating at his own restaurants, etc, etc... money that goes back to him. And for sending his sons to stay at his properties in Abu Dhabi, etc, while they were on business for Trump enterprises.

...among other things.
You probably haven't noticed, but it's irritated the heck out of me.

I think you should perhaps re-read the article. The professor is making a case that the terms of one lawsuit are not being properly set up because under those terms Obama could be sued for owning US Treasury bonds.
It doesn't say he violated the clause.

What does any of this matter? Didn't he transfer all of his businesses to his sons? So some civil lawsuit is gonna somehow take him down for what? Having successful children?
I really don't understand the craziness of the impeach Trump crowd. You know that would just give is Pence, right?
