What business is it of the state that allows them to determine what a company wants to charge its employees?

A company should have the freedom to charge a penny per meal if that's what they so choose.

Fine. You just don't get certain tax breaks. Easy peesy. New development will know this in advance. This is about saving mom and pop operations. Not corporate fascism. The opposite in fact.

It's legislative fascism, especially using the tax system as a punitive measure.

There's nothing punitive about it. If a company want to give free or discounted meals on site they can go elsewhere. If they want to locate in San Fran and reimburse for meals they can.

Next step is no more office bathrooms everyone has to poop on the streets like every one else in San Francisco

Well there's no arguing with that type of logic. @@

You'd figure people crapping in the streets would create an ecological disaster.

Strangely though, The Church of climatology is silent on this issue.

Part of extreme socialism is convincing people that they need to sacrifice there standards of living.

They want us used to living in 3rd world conditions.

They're not #ing banning cafeterias...they're banning places providing free lunch because these places have thousands of employees. They're not banning you from taking lunch, or eating lunch at your work. They're doing it because giant subsidized companies are basically taking over towns and providing nothing back. You can still eat your own food at work, you can still get your lunch paid for. Your boss just cant hire 5 star chefs and provide free meals for everyone every day. If you keep reading the article. They will even allow cafeterias if they're open to the genral public and supplied locally. The op's post is so full of bull# just like everything i read on here nowadays.

It's a company's right to provide perks and rewards to employee's.

It's a way to attract talent and provide a healthy working environment.

A concept lost on most libs I assume due to the fact most can't get jobs with there BA in gender or womyn studies.

Of course not only will you libitards take away people's right to eat, I am sure you will be mandating what we eat next.

Hmmm you did read the part where their meals are still allowed to be paid for by the company right?
You do understand facebook and other tech companies are giant companies already getting generous and government subsidies and tax breaks right? You understand that government already interferes in these businesses by providing them benefits. So these poor starving techworkers that start at around $70k a year and on average make $116k a year are already having their 'free' meals paid for by your tax money. But...ya know gubmint right?

It's pretty funny watching rednecks defend a giant multinational companies hostile unamerican actions because gubmint. Since when do conservatives not prefer local governments to have the say as to what goes on in their communities? Or supporting giant multinational companies over local businesses? No now I watch you all defend a company subsidized by the federal government literally crushing the little guy with their endless supplies.of money. This whole thread is some #ing funny #.

Since when did liberals start hating FREE LUNCHES?

The nearby city of Mountain View recently barred a new Facebook office from offering free- or reduced-cost meals at its cafeteria, reported the Chronicle.

In am far from a redneck.

I have worked for company's with subsidised canteens and they are extremly convenient.

Only the most retarded of libitards that have never had a high skilled job in their entitled little life's can be against them.

It is you that have failed in logic.

The convenience of a subsidised canteen in high skilled jobs is a life line in a lot of work, especially in the science and technology fields where you might have to work long and late hours.

If they pass that idiotic legislation I hope the companies pull up roots and move their businesses elsewhere. Let the whole district turn into a ghost town.

Maybe reading the source will help. It's for NEW businesses.

Let the whole district turn into a ghost town.

That is what this proposal is trying to prevent.

Reading comprehension. Not just for grade school kids anymore.

[Snip].. It's pretty funny watching rednecks defend a giant multinational companies hostile unamerican actions ,,,[snip]

Author's message...sad.. Comments such as above pop up even in a conversation about a government body attempting, yet again, to tell other entities how and where to spend their money on employees dining perks.

A mote: No part of reduced meals or free meals for employees is "hostile" on behalf of any organization.

Quite the contrary, it is about taxable revenue and a business hostile state.

It makes sense then.

Of course it does...to those with screwy logic.

As usual, the worker gets hurt in the name of progress. Can't have the free market actually benefiting workers. Nope. Need to stop that immediately. We need to pick the winners and losers...and workers should always lose in the name of progress.

How much time do you think most workers get for lunch?

Where's the additional parking?

If my business doesn't have a cafeteria, do my employees now have to suffer bigger crowds as the big employers empty out for lunch?

So what will really happen?

Employees will pay more to stay within their campuses or buildings.

Employees will brown bag their lunches.

Employers will cater lunches...and I'm willing to bet from their own 'off site' cafeterias.

Restaurants will still succeed or fail based upon the merits of their efforts and market conditions.

Personally, I'm grateful SF does stuff like this. It reminds why leaving the left to its own devices is never a good thing for the populous. Great intentions. Awful policies.

It doesn't.

Takes years to build that depends on growth.

If no growth no new.

Of course, I read it kiddo.

Do you think it will stop there? I don't. Better for them to pull up and head to places that aren't trying to micromanage your employee's lives.

Pretty expensive there I am sure they could find a more accommodating and less expensive place to set up shop where legislatures stay out of their damn business.
