As someone who voted Brexit, this royally ticks me off. Not because I hate America or Trump and all that other blather that people would normally spout but because we've listened to the EU figure heads talk about a free trade between the UK (post Brexit) and the EU ONLY if we accept free movement of people (even though that should actually be free movement of labour not people) and yet they talk about a free trade deal with the US and how will free movement work with the States? Oh that's right none at all and this is the problem with the EU it picks and chooses what laws it has to follow but forces other countries to follow the law to the letter.

We (the UK) government has put more than enough offers on the table everything up to a second vote (which I will fight against. I want my slice of democracy first) and each one they have said "No" or should that be "Nein"? and have offered no alternatives other than a second vote. I'm sorry but I think it's time we just walked away and fell onto WTO rules because EU countries should remember tariffs are a two way street and we export far more to the rest of the world than we do them, we HOWEVER buy more from them. Sorry about the anti-EU rant but man do I hate them.

Europe gets 40% of their gas from opec.

They drive smaller cars.

They could kick their Russia habit if they wanted to.

I'm glad to see the EU is planning on raising imports for soybeans... seems to be the go-to crop this year around here. The farmers can always use the money.

Nothing has been agreed beyond agreeing to negotiate. Here is a reliable source:

President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared a “new phase” in the relationship between the U.S. and the European Union, agreeing to hold off on proposed car tariffs and work with the EU to resolve their dispute over metals duties while also promoting bilateral trade.

Speaking in the Rose Garden of the White House alongside European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Mr. Trump said the U.S. and the EU had agreed to “work together toward zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers and zero subsidies on non auto-industrial goods.”

“This was a very big day for free and fair trade,” Mr. Trump said. He said the U.S. and EU would “resolve” the steel and aluminum tariffs he imposed earlier this year and the retaliatory tariffs the EU imposed in response. Those tariffs set off strong reactions from Europeans who saw them as violating international trade agreements.

The Wall Street Journal

So... the title of this thread has exactly wrong. Trump caved and will lift the tariffs, and Europe will drop those they imposed in retaliation. Then the diplomats will negotiate and negotiate....

Wait until China gets on board with even tarriffs on both sides... or none at all!

Not the real issue. It's intellectual property, bogus and/or pirated goods, and industrial espionage. Tariffs won't fix those.

This is good news. I just hope someone takes his phone away until after they figure out what they are going to put in place of the tariffs. If you are winning the race there is no need to overheat the engine.

With this news the Dow jumped 150 points. More winning for the president.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday secured concessions from Europe, averting a trade war, the Dow Jones News Wire reported, citing a European Union official. The report came shortly before Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker were scheduled to brief the press at a joint conference in the White House Rose Garden. The market rallied on the news. The Dow Jones Industrial Average popped Wednesday afternoon, rising about half a percent. The Europeans agreed to lower industrial tariffs and import more U.S. soybeans, Dow Jones reported. Trump said earlier on Wednesday said he hoped "to work something out on a fair trade deal with Europe."

Over and over he is doubted and the media drags him in the mud. The headlines after he said this were all doom and gloom.

Way to go Mr President.

I think you have it wrong, it’s not doubt. It’s the narrative the USA is evil with it’s success. The USA uses too many resources. The USA needs to be brought down. Socialism and communism just makes everyone equally miserable.

The USA does not deserve to be great again in the mind of progressives. It’s believed the world is miserable because of USA’s success.

Trump did not cave. It was not Trump who flew back to the EU asking for the concessions and negotiations was it? Nope. I was wondering how it would be worded to spin it...

Working together to reduce Trade deficit and not kick off a trade war? Sounds like winning to the rest of us.

This little tidbit too:

He said the EU had agreed “almost immediately” begin buying more U.S. soybeans and that the European bloc had agreed to increase LNG exports from the U.S. The EU will be a “massive buyer” of LNG, Mr. Trump said.

The soybeans and LNG were huge to me. China was going to use the soybeans for their trade issues and he took LNG sales away from Russia which he would not do if in his pocket as the narrative says.

Two problems addressed while resolving a third...a-f'n-mazing...

Cant wait for the Left's response to this thread. all I am hearing is shocked silence so far

I am on the left.

No shocked silence from me, credit were credit is due, Trump (and his team) have got the concessions he wanted and hopefully this will signal the deescalation of the trade war that was on the horizon.

I think this attitude that you either think Trump is all bad or all good needs to end personally.

Quoted because this needs to be said and it must stop.

Trump isnt an almighty or infallable. He will make mistakes like any other person. But to use what he does good to troll the other side isnt helping anyone with anything. It pushes people to the extreme in either party.. If your goverment isnt doing it it seems to be up to you to keep the divide going and judging by ATS its going better than ever. Its getting real old real fast.

Neither of you are wrong.

The best part is, history will likely remember things a little more fairly. Although few will sing the praises of GW Bush, how many still go on daily about how he is the great satan that is plaguing modern times? For the most part, to many moderates anyway, he's seen as Obama lite. Point is, Trump will be judged by things that last. Things that matter. Not Stormy Daniels.

I can't stand the guy personally. And his decisions, while typically working out for the good in a big way, are kinda like a 150mph ride down the interstate with a stunt car driver. Its hair raising seeing the mold being broke on conventional wisdom in modern politics. But it seems to be working out quite well.

I guess we can cut back on that farmer bailout... Not like China bought up 3 years worth of soy beans already...lol so far all of this has been a huge win for farmers and not a single soy bean loss yet.

Yeah. We are just now getting a handle on capturing the copious amounts of natural gas in the west texas shale. For years its been just burnt off. The infrastructure was feverishly built over he last 10 years to capture and refine a majority of it.

I had thought it would become diesel. Thankfully, it seems we are going to sell it to Europe. Win for Texas.
