I seem to recall that there was what I would consider to be forward movement during the flap of the mid-1960s. Lots of very good and odd reports at that time. Unfortunately, the mindset at that time was pure nuts and bolts, and the data was skewed in that direction, leaving out a lot of the "high strangeness" that could be factored in to produce a much more accurate picture of what's going on. Whatever it is.
