Now first I want to start out by saying he also said Russia is still active, which we all know, because they always are... As are we.

ASPEN, Colo. -- FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday that Russia continues to use fake news, propaganda and covert operations to "spin up" Americans on both sides of hot-button issues to sow discord in the United States.

Hmmmm, both sides you say Mr. Wray? Why does the news make it sound like it's only pro Trump, and he's in on it? (he may be, we don't know yet).
Even though we don't know it, people are using that for political leverage. And as I've said before, if anyone is guilty of a crime, I want them punished, even if that includes Trump. But don't piss on my leg and call it rain, pushing theories or "probabilities" as fact. But I digress.

He said the Russians identify divisive issues, and through covert and overt operations, fake news and propaganda, they "spin people up on both sides of an issue and then kind of watch us go after each other."

Russia isn't the only country threatening the U.S., Wray said.

He said he thinks China, from a counterintelligence perspective, represents the broadest and most significant threat America faces. China wants to replace the United States as the most powerful economic engine in the world and is infiltrating American businesses to get an edge. "We have economic espionage investigations in all 50 states" that can be traced back to China, Wray said. "It covers everything from corn seeds in Iowa to wind turbines in Massachusetts and everything in between. "The volume of it. The pervasiveness of it. The significance of it is something that I think this country cannot underestimate."
Main source (small news outlet out of Alabama, so not MSM)
NBC
FOX
/Huffpost..... (oddly they didn't say anything about China) who the FBI director said is our biggest threat.

Oh? What's that? China is actually engaging in economic espionage as they have for decades? Why doesn't anyone talk about that? Why is it that when we try to do something about them its a "trade war" that could bring everything down? Maybe a trade war isn't good for our economy, but I'll tell you what else isn't, doing nothing. They've been ripping off American ingenuity for decades and selling it to the world as knock offs.

But I ask those on ATS who just can't get enough Russia, those who are willing to call anyone traitors or treasonous because they won't got by the script and say hack or collusion when on this topic.... Why nothing about China? Listen to the intelligence community you say, here it is, China is the biggest threat. And that is not to say that Russia isn't, no no, but when it comes to money, China wins.

How many threads have our "patriots" here made about China recently? Do they not bring enough ammo for the argument? Or is it not a good buzz word like RUSSIA!!!

When I put Russia in bold, did it send chills through your spines? That country with an economy smaller than Texas should have us censoring, maybe even turning off the internet before meme trolls bring this country to it's knees.

Alright, there it is folks, aside from some sarcastic humor I tried to be honest about what threats we have, and yes, Russia is still one as always.

Our greatest threat is neither Russia or China.

It's a political party that everyone knows ALL too well.

It's mascot is the donkey.

No, our biggest threat is ourselves. Russia wouldn't even waste time sowing discord if we all weren't so petty.

It wouldn't be worth the resources if our nation actually tried to work together.

I will say they are ironically doing the bidding by using Russia as the blame to all our woes.

He's right.
A split with Russia and neither suffers.
A split with china and loads of consequences.

It's like the difference between splitting up with a girlfriend or a wife with 3 of your kids in the middle.

Perhaps, let me try a knock at the analogy.

China's cheap goods are like a drug, and we're addicted. If we split we go through withdrawals and detox. It would be rough.

Then we start becoming self reliant, maybe goods will be more expensive, but that money stays here. The dollar could hypothetically hold more value because there isn't trade imbalance/debt (as much) built in.

I agree.
A slow withdrawal is best.
But the crazy ex "china" might not be so willing to have a smooth break up.

China has built its economy around imports to America. Losing that trade will devastate them.

Oh I'm sure they wouldn't, we're main lining cold hard cash to grow them.

Imagine if we stunted their growth and became more powerful at the same time? It's almost like the Russia thing is serving as a distraction, a red herring. What if they're..... Colluding? *GASP*

No argument here
.

We've become spoiled. Men and women gave blood sweat and tears to build this nation. Recent generations forget that democracies are only as good as the participation from the citizens. We expect to get spoon fed information from corporate conglomerates. We think that we can straight ticket vote as if one side has our best interests in mind. Yet their campaigns get paid for by the same people. Interesting to say the least.

Our greatest threat is too much consumer debt because wages are depressed and prices are fixed too high by data analytics.

www.quandl.com...

Without a strong consumer we will not have the tax based needed to pay for military socialism spending.

Lobbyist forcing politicians to pass laws creating cartels and monopolies in exchange for campaign financing is our greatest threat.

I can agree with that. Only possible with an ignorant and docile mass of people who think the Democrats or Repubs are some kind of holy saviors

I would have to agree with the FBI directors points. Russia wants chaos in America and will promote both sides to accomplish this. People are playing right into their hands. I do think China will overtake the US as the biggest economic power, we screwed up and let that happen. We exported way too much of our production to China. Our past administrations screwed up Royally allowing this to happen.

Does us outsourcing to China while they are stealing our intellectual property not tie into that?

And now they're driving the final stake into our heart while we're distracted and bickering.

Whatever Trump does will be blocked and fraught tooth and nail.

Out of spite the same thing will happen when the power is with the left. Not to say that hasn't been going on to some degree for a while now.

Blind loyalty no matter what either side does. As I've said countless times they have the same agenda for the most part, fueled by those who write their campaign's checks. Our democracy was sold when lobbyism and superpacs were allowed to run rampant.

While Russia distracts the conversation, China will advance. When it's all said and done it is us small guys who will absorb the blow while the check writers buffer themselves with the government. The right and the left will allow it.

The UK thought it was wonderful that the Chinese were buying up all our old metal scrap waste, converting them to new electrical appliances and gadgets, then reselling those items back to us. The newspapers at the time were gushing about this and how it was a virtuous cycle. Only decade later did we realize that they were keeping all the high quality metal and selling us stuff that wouldn't last two years, and that we had sold off all our maintainable and repairable appliances. Even worse, we now had a billion pound trade deficit that required austerity measures to fix.

I read somewhere that during the Cold War in the 60s, the US once asked the Soviets if they can conduct joint operations to bomb Chinese nuclear facilities but the Soviets said no.

Years later, when the Sino Soviet border conflict in 1969 intensified, the Soviets told the Americans that they will bomb China only for the US to rebuff them.

www.scmp.com...

A day will come when Russia and the US will join together against China. There was a thread that talks about how China wanted to take back territories taken from Russia.
