It provides dignity and structure and a sense of place and a sense of purpose

Barack Obama

We have that already, it's called a "job," dumbass. Since you're presently out of one, you might benefit from getting your resume in order and looking for one. I understand they're hiring at Walmart.

Current Us population. 325 million people.

$6000 a figure from that other thread.

$1,950,000,000,000

Almost $2 trillion dollars PER YEAR ?

Can't live on that.

Some form of UBI in some matter will be necessary in the future and is arguably necessary now to some degree. It, however, cannot work with all the illegal immigration going on...

Kind of like most socialistic things cannot work with unlimited immigration. Is one of my biggest issues with the left.

Two completely opposing things being supported by the same group. Is a recipe for failure.

That is a common theme on the left... conflicting policies.

UBI won't work.

First, it would lead to inflation so that $6,000 won't go very far.

Second, we would still have the welfare state so it isn't even like they are saying we will give you $6,000 but we are going to get rid of food stamps, welfare, and all the other big government social programs to pay for it.

Third, we will really see how some people are just financial idiots. If UBI comes to fruition, I will be opening up sneaker, rim shops, and weave stores in every hood I can.

Surely they're not talking about every American, but that figure you gave is from a straight transfer of the money. It doesn't account for the immense inefficiency of our government and its ability to eat up money on the administrative end. It doesn't account for the ways they use these programs to fatten their pockets.

This would drag out the (already 50 years) war on poverty for another 50 years.

😎

The one percent would definitely be gone, they'd be the new 3/5's crowd for a time.

Then 100% of the people would be equally poor.

Oh yes, more like 2-5%

Everyone would be heading to Central / South America.... Taking their wealth, corporations, manufacturing, just about any job that could be done remotely with them!

Yes, the second you give out UBI, the cost of living will go up to compensate with it.

Oh so only 'certain' people would get UNIVERSAL basic income.

How quaint.

Nothing like seeing a $1000 beater with the frame rusting out driving around with $3k in rims!

Of course, that is exactly how it would work.... we idiots who go to work everyday trying to make a living get to pay for it.

Exactly and the same people crying about being broke today, will still be broke tomorrow after inflation raises the cost of everything. They won't be any better off...

It’s not just money that a job provides,” Obama said in a portion of his speech devoted to economic policy. “It provides dignity and structure and a sense of place and a sense of purpose.

So, If you are a stay at home parent, a child living at home, unemployed, ect… you have none of those things?

Gates could toss in 95 billion and still
end up a billionare.

And the owner of amazon?

Not that I support this whacky idea.
But to be sure I don't support greed
either.

I'm in the top 10%, and I would move my happy self right out of here. Doesn't even need to be the super rich, anyone with any degree of wealth that could get out would do so. I have a hard enough time paying for all of the socialist BS as it is, but to give money to people that are capable of working, nope I draw the line right there. I'm all for a social safety net, especially for those that worked their lives in the system and found themselves screwed through no fault of their own, but if you're just gonna sit on your ass and collect money, it's not going to be any more of mine.

Edit to add to the poster above me: Call me greedy, if that's what you need to do. I don't consider any billionaire that worked their way into their positions to be greedy. They earned it, if they want to keep it, keep it. If they want to give it away, then give it away. The damn government shouldn't be telling them how to best serve society, they already provided their service by developing or inventing their respective services that make life easier for a lot of us.

Yes, but the rest of us can be broke with them.... that is the goal.

Equality.... equally miserable
