They may even be vastly expanded once expected challenges (2A and 14A challenges) to the NFA/GCA are heard by the new SCOTUS.

Great to see we have installed justices that will interpret the Constitution as it was intended, and not based on their own opinion/political beliefs.

This is a major victory for the Citizens of the United States

I am presently looking out for a pro NFA/GCA repeal cause to donate to.

Thank you President Trump

Same here my friend

Thankfully Brett Kavanaugh has a strong record and a long history of public service. There is absolutely nothing about this guy the left can complain about, save for the fact that he wears an (R) by his name instead of a (D) - which of course isn't a valid reason to oppose him.

They will try, I am sure. And I really hope Red State Dems vote against him... That will ensure we pick up a handful of Senate seats. And heck, if they vote for him? It shows they can put country above party, and just may let them keep their jobs.

That is what minority whip Senator Dick Durbin is telling them to do. Sacrifice your Senate seat if it comes to that. Going against the voters in your state is more important than helping to confirm a Trump-nominated Supreme Court justice.

us VS them mentality.

America is destined to be great... after the fall.
i don't know where in history such a political mentality worked out for a country.

what do you 'win' exactly... i don't know.
great insight thread though

Nonsense. All of "us" have a vested interest in securing the full scope of our Constitutionally protected liberties. Do you disagree?

What do I (aka: WE) win? We win our constitutional rights, as intended, without unlawful interference from government.

Just remember, what is good for gun rights is good for free speech/abortion/religion/privacy/protect against searches-seizures/etc. I promote any action that leads to MORE individual freedom not less. I don't care if it is a liberal or conservative cause - if it results in greater personal autonomy/freedom/liberty then it is a GOOD thing

True, but there is no pathway for Democrats to block his nomination. And given his mainstream/long term credentials, there is no legitimate opposition to his ascension to the SCOTUS

Of course that won't stop angry Democrats from pretending it is the end of the world as we know it. It won't stop them from accusing him of racism/sexism/blah-blah-blah ism

Trump will continue to do what he's done all along (even when some courts interfered unlawfully, as SCOTUS said, with his travel ban orders). Trump will steam-roll the opposition, take whatever hits he has to take and come out a better man for it. He will lose no support, but may gain a majority of independents/some moderate liberals when Americans see how petty the Dems are for obstructing simply to obstruct

Dems should rejoin the mainstream, instead of pandering to this ultra-minority of radical fringe leftists.

Worse............HE'S MARRIED TO A WOMAN who was actually BORN that way; so he's like all anti-LGBTQX because he might well be heteronormative which can only mean one thing! Eegads, he's probably a HOMOPHOBE! /sarc.

Oh..........the horror's. Please tell me he's not actually a church going Christian!

Maxine Waters and Kamala Harris will have an absolute fit over this one!

The only reason I knew he was picked is because I saw media coverage of all the protests outside the supreme court. I wonder if even half of those people protesting even know why they're protesting...

I am glad you said that. It shows some of you may be actually understanding what is happening.

The "Right" is mainstream. The "Right" is the status quo. The "Right" is the swamp. Most Democrats included.

Leftists are the "radical fringe" with absolutely no representation.

Naturally! How dare he be a white male AND successful! Why, he must be the devil incarnate himself

...and lord forbid he is happily married, that clearly means he is anti-LGBQ

At least if you subscribe to the theories of Maxine Waters and Kamala Harris

You are right, entirely. The minute our government usurped ANY power not specifically permitted to it by the Constitution they destroyed their own legitimacy. The second they began applying the law unequally, they destroyed their own legitimacy.

Where were at now is the result of lawlessness, favoritism and unequal application of law. And they have no one to blame but themselves/their illegitimate "officials"/their corrupt lawyers and anti-Constitutional anti-American laws

At this point, I say more power to you (and others)

Living under tyranny was never something our country/our people were very good at

Cool so something that was relevant to 18th century is still needed, who thought progress was dead

Spit fire and call me all the names you like but IMO (thats all this is), the lack of guns or abbundance of guns does not stop crime, crime predates the firearm by a long way, therefore lets just get rid of them and get back to a good ol punch up, and work on fixing issues with society

Its your constitution you will decide what is best for you

peace and begin the name calling

I don't disagree with most of what you wrote, except that the left has no representation. The mainstream left does (almost equal in the Senate, for instance) while the radical fringes do not (due to having an unpopular agenda/wedge issues). Just as the radical fringes of the right wing have little-to-no representation (due to those same reasons)

I predict both parties will sit down and compromise, instead of widening this divide. At least I hope so

In doing so, our Constitutional rights must be upheld. This includes all Constitutional rights, including the 14th amendment argument supporting abortion rights. I feel nothing but contempt toward those who seek to limit the rights of Americans for any reason

I have no problem with mainstream Dems/liberals/etc. Heck, I don't even have an issue with socialists (provided they don't seek to impose their will on others against their will). I do take issue with anyone who thinks it is OK to use violence to achieve their political goals - Americans won't/can't be scared into giving up our rights

Hopefully we all learned our lesson after the 9/11 debacle and endless illegal wars that followed

No name calling, and the star is from me. Thanks for sharing your opinion

IMO, It is not relevant just to the 18th century, however. While firearms and RKBA do indeed help citizens defend themselves from other citizens, it is mainly there to ensure government tyranny (of any sort) can never prosper. Heck, look at the handful of recent examples in the news where citizens used firearms to protect themselves/their children/their co-workers from armed criminals. Sure, other weapons *could* work against criminals to - it just so happens that firearms are the most effective way to ensure a criminal can be stopped with less risk to the innocent citizen

Private ownership of military grade weaponry ensures the government doesn't even have the option to terrorize citizens and commit atrocities (seen all throughout history) against the same. At the very least, it provides a credible deterrent to such patently unlawful/un-Constitutional behavior

There is very little difference between the mainstream right and left. Both are right of center and do not represent anything remotely close to Leftist ideals.

The radical Left is damn near non-existent. Hell, you cant even find a socialist around anymore. They are rare.

The radical Right, now they are becoming more and more mainstream. How do you think Trump got in to office?

I have no problem with mainstream Dems/liberals/etc

That's because you have quite a bit in common. You are both right of center. You just root for different teams.

Bread and circus for politics.

And combating those radical fringes are something all Americans (including conservatives/libertarians) have an interest in. The majority of Americans do not support a violent and un-Constitutional agenda

Perhaps not. But this is because (please correct me if I'm wrong) those leftist ideals you speak of would ultimately result in less individual freedom. Now this reduced freedom would no doubt come in the name of "increased security/safety" "less deaths" or other justification. But at the end of the day, for better or worse, we'd enjoy less autonomy and liberty

For most Americans, this is the antithesis of what our country is all about. And it certainly is not in line with our Constitutional values

But like I've always said, I actually believe socialism would work decently well in small homogeneous communities. But in an extremely diverse nation like the United States (nationally), it simply would not work how it is intended. Now take a small rural community the size of mine? We are already a de-facto "socialist" community
