Depends on what you'd define as socialism. If it's universal health care than yes.... Beyond that I doubt it.

The only way I'd be in favor of that Healthcare though is if it wasn't though raised taxes per person, but rather luxury taxes.

Want a bag of chips? Price is doubled, half goes to the Healthcare fund (do this with all unhealthy food and alcohol/tobacco) . It would instantly fund the system and discourage bad habits. In a generation we'd see a healthier populace. And for those who don't want to be healthy, they are paying for what they use.

For those who think that system is unfair, you have 400-1,200 more a month to spend as you wish, or eat healthy and save money.

I never said it would be a rousing success. I just said its inevitable. People in the US, generally speaking are not all that bright and are rather more ruled by their emotions. As well, most of the US institutions of government, if not all are failing and fast.

That combination gets you to socialism, or some form of it. Bread and circuses for the mouth breathers.......and of course, free lard.

Wealth inequality is at all time highs! We are about as far away from socialism as you can get and still have a currency with a shred of value. Check how bad it is:

We need massive socialism in this country. Consider the words of FDR from a 1936 speech at the Democrat National Convection:

For too many of us the political equality we once had won was meaningless in the face of economic inequality. Only the power of government can address wealth inequality in this country. Maybe we need to stop dropping 30,000 bombs in the Middle East every year. Maybe we need to close half of the 700+ military bases we have around the world. Maybe we need to return back to tax rates during the FDR era.

But do not worry, nothing will change. George Carlin was right 20 years ago and he's even more right today:



The american people are screwed up the butt. It's okay though. Marx always said laissez-faire capitalism is always followed by communism. This is because unfettered greed would result in the government's currency collapsing to nothing in value. Once the currency collapse to nothing, people in the breadlines will demand MORE government not less. See you in the breadlines comrades!!!

NAZIS were socialists, and brought almost every continent in to global war.

Communists are socialists. The likes of Mao and Stalin that was built off tens of millions.

Real socialism is a myth though. It looks really good on paper, but it relies on the idea that every human being really will push to work to the limits of their ability without any recognition beyond receiving an equivalent allotment of what is produced. It also relies on the idea that all humans want and need exactly the same things without individual needs and preferences.


You couldn't even get a tiny country to work consistently with socialism, humans abuse the system way too much. It isn't a hereditary factor either, I know some people who love to live symbiotically and work well, yet their kids are lazy and want everything given to them without having to work for it. It almost appears that our education system in antisocialism, they tend to teach kids that college and impressive jobs are the cat's meow. In real socialism everyone works and a farmer is respected just as much as a scientist or doctor. I know socialism will not work with humans, they would need to take away everyone's rights first off and conditioning does not work on many people. I do know chemistries that make people so they would make people believe in this, but many people are immune to the food chemistries and pills. Those people would need to be killed in order for someone to build a socialist society that works. Most people here on ATS would need to be eliminated, they would only allow those who can be conditioned to live.

From my studies, many people are being controlled already, dumbed down so they believe unreal stuff that is being told to them. Some Big Pharma has to be in on this. Of course, they are making us buy their brainwashing chemistry by making people believe everyone is sick.

Thats true, but you already have all the governmental mechinisms in place to achieve some degree of socialism. The only thing that stands in the way of full on socialism in the US is the Constitution which protects private property rights. But they'll find a way around that problem with the sharing economy.

Except it was communism whose currency collapsed and had no food. Russians who came to America marveled at our supermarkets and the fact they had food in them.

Also, Cuba was taken advantage of by the USSR, people warned about Nazi's and their intentions and ignored them, and the French revolution worked out quite well if you ask me. You are putting up a generalization of something that we already know, it doesn't ALWAYS end in death and destruction.

As Margaret Thatcher so eloquently put, the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money...

The US has certainly flirted with it and much like the quote above, we are running out of other people's money. Every socialist nation eventually will find itself in financial problems.

Most of the "democratic socialist" nations that the left loves to hold up are a fraction of the size of the US, have homogenous populations, limited immigration, and rely on other countries for defense.

It is ironic that the left advocates for more socialism while at the same time advocating for open borders. The two are simply incompatible.

Pretty accurate based on current reality.

Is it possible? Absolutely.
Is it likely? Nope

Contrary to what we see on tv the bulk of Americans will no tolerate a socialist system of government. Socialism does not work and Venezuela is evidence of that.

Socialism only works in countries who have a system of government other than socialism. In my opinion the appearance of Americans supporting it wholeheartedly is nothing more than a vocal minority. This is one of the reasons the Democratic party is in turmoil. The part is fracturing with more people being elected whose viewpoints are socialist in nature. The latest winner from the Bronx advocates an end to ICE (along with more Democrats already in Congress) as well as redistribution of wealth. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are the same. While the bulk are anti gun anti 2nd amendment they seem to feel those laws should apply to no one. Feinstein is rabidly anti gun yet she has a conceal carry permit. Sadly the end result should socialism grab hold would start with open defiance from the states to them leaving the Union, most likely by force.

I have faith in the American people though that they would act before it got that far.

Laissez-faire capitalism is not perfect. Here Marx has some succinct criticism of laissez-faire capitalism that I find have a pretty strong ring of truth to it:



There are trade-offs in having socialism and NOT having socialism. If you are billionaire everything is just peachy just the way it is. How bad can taxes be if rich people get richer and richer every year as poverty increases. Government is the only force powerful enough to fight poverty.

Just because you are an a hole who doesn't care about anyone but yourself doesn't make it "Bull and crap":

1) 767 million people, or 10.7 percent of the population, live in extreme poverty with less than $1.90 per day.

2) 2.1 billion people live on less than $3.10 per day.

3) 328 million children are living in extreme poverty.

4) At least 17 million children suffer from severe acute undernutrition around the world. Severe acute malnutrition is the direct cause of death for 1 million children every year.

5)Every single day, 1,000 children under 5 die from illnesses like diarrhoea, dysentery, and cholera caused by contaminated water and inadequate sanitation.
