I was just getting ready for bed, having a last wine.

Somebody take a last pic.

And thinking winter is always like the Ice Age.

And immediately here come people saying "You don't have winter in Cape Town".

So much coldness and misery, and people freezing to death every year.
We don't have winter?

What is your definition of winter?

But then we don't have houses with standard heating, and millions of people are living in shacks.

For our purposes we have a pretty icy winter.
In fact, the nomadic indigenous people moved away here during winter, and even my granny from Germany froze here (when she wasn't in her heated room).

It ain't tourist season - we have a formidable winter.
Or does winter mean meters of snow and ice?

I thought this was going to be a climate change or reverse Game of Thrones thread

I am in Texas, we don't really have 'Winter' either.. but it can get cold!

You're 2000 miles from Antarctica. I'm trying to figure out how you manage a *summer*.

The less intelligent and more ignorant think Africa= HOT everywhere.

Icky weather vs. an entirely altered landscape.

OK fair enough, we're more on the icky weather spectrum.

But it's icky enough to avoid.

City of Cape Town disaster risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell said heavy rainfall, strong winds, very cold conditions and possible snowfall over high-lying areas have been forecast.

You have winter, like Vancouver has winter.
Very cold, and rain, in the same sentence...that just doesn't work 😕
Stuff like rainfall should freeze in winter.

I thought stuff would be colder there now, maybe it's not as south as I thought

I checked some climate data and it's showing you have average lows in the middle of winter around 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 or 8 Celsius).
You honestly think that's harsh winter weather? You're completely delusional. That's shorts and tshirt weather for me. Try spending a winter in below 0 F (-17.8 C).

Weather sissy. You don't even know what cold is. You'd get along with Floridians, that's for sure.

What is your definition of winter?

Cold enough to snow for 2 or 3 months.

It's OK. Where I live, most people think we have winter pretty much all the time, and they are usually thinking snow and ice. Think Dickensian scenes or carolers and ice skating and stuff, but sometimes we barely get below freezing much. Sometimes, we barely get precipitation. Some years, we may not get precip, but it's so cold, schools will cancel anyhow because some of the poorer kids won't have adequate protection at the bus stops. And some years, it just dumps snow like you wouldn't believe.

Or you could have any mix of conditions ... with thunder and lightning in your snow!

Naysayers will claim, that is not winter - this is winter.

Wow, so many different colors!
Let's migrate.
Oh, but I can't.

Some want to eject you from this place, and where your people came from, they have no ancestral right of return.

So winter is a space in the heart,

A frozen future,

That tears you apart.

Go East young man.....don't stop till you hit land.
.

I had a girl from the UK tell me how cold it is here the other day.
At least she was intelligent enough to add that it is because we dont have the lavish central heating they have in Europe/North America.
Of course, people die in 'Heatwaves" of 30 deg during their summer....no cooling, and stifling houses you see.

Ive had Scottish people tell me they are cold here, as well as Germans.....

Its all relative...I just tell them, wait for summer!!!

People ask me, how do you stay so slim?

I tell them: "The Anxiety Diet".

Yeah, freaking out at least three times a day burns a lot of calories.

Like every time you watch the "news".
Morning, noon and night.

Or the Jordan Peterson approach - quit whining, text a bro, grab some spears, and put your chest out.

Just because we hunted the mega-fauna to extinction in the Ice Age, doesn't mean there's nothing left to hunt!

But nobody wants to go ...

Hey fellas, anybody wanna hunt ice-bears or chill out on the couch, and procrastinate?

Dude, I'm happy on the couch.

Winter is cold and uncomfortable.

At least here ...

In the North they are so ready for winter, it's always very comfortable.

Yeah it's strange, even European tourists come here and say it's "a different kind of cold".

Perhaps "coldness" is not a monolithic thing?

Perhaps there are many ways of being cold?
