If you haven't heard already, a 28 year-old names Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now the Democratic Nominee for New York's 14th District congressional seat. She defeated Representative Joseph Crowley (D). Crowley was pretty much a shoe-in as the Democratic nominee, but the 10-term Representative lost to Ocasio-Cortez who has no experience in office.

Ocasio-Cortez's campaign focused on free college tuition, medicare for all (single-payer healthcare), federal jobs guarantee, and protecting immigrants. She hopes to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement altogether. Surprise surprise, she assisted in Bernie Sanders' campaigns in the past.

Anyway, this morning I see an article about her mother claiming Ocasio-Cortez is setting her sights on the white house. Personally, I don't think it's wise to have your mother going to the press saying things like this, when you have no experience in office, but I also didn't win the Democratic nomination for NY's 14th District.

"She has been thinking about politics since she was a teenager. She would read historical and political books old and new," her mother said. "She would engage in political discussions passionately."

Wow, I'm impressed! She definitely sounds fit to be President, don't you agree? HAHAHA

If elected to office, it will likely be an uphill battle for Cortez, and to get into the Oval office it will take more than fun promises and anti-establishment rhetoric.

Thoughts ATS?

I'm not impressed by an idiot socialist who wants to abolish ICE and turn this country into a South American socialist garbage heap.

If I'm elected president, I promise amazing jobs for everyone, and free everything for everybody!

If I'm elected president, I promise exactly the opposite of whatever she promises.

No more free anything- it costs too much.

Considering her possible constituants, she may well get into office.

The Presidency would be a pretty uphill battle though, since last I checked she could only carry roughly 30% of American voters running a socialist platform. Same problem Bernie was going to have if they hadn't rigged his primary.

An opinion, of course.

Trump had no experience and relied solely on anti-establishment rhetoric and won the electoral college vote.

So I don't think that argument works.

Trump had no experience

In being an executive?

Guy has tons of experience.

won the electoral college vote.

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to work.

So I don't think that argument works.

Ok, but what argument are you making?

I thought an outsider with no experience was a good thing? Only when it's your guy?

I can't tell the difference between a socialist and a liberal these days.

Context matters.

Socialists are cancer.

Wrong.

Funny you mention this. My OP originally talked about the President but ATS has been overrun with left versus right lately so I stayed away. But now that you've brought it up...

No Trump did not "solely rely" on that. Trump has a major reputation as a power broker and business mogul. No matter how you feel about him, he has been very successful, is a natural leader and has multiple decades more experience in the business AND non-business world that Cortez cannot even come close to.

No political experience.
Trump had years of experience in business.

This girl is still wet behind the ears.

What matters is what are the goals if you get elected, how do you plan to achieve those goals, and how does that affect the public's everyday lives.

This is a great thread.
She can't be. No experience. Wet behind the ears. An outsider.

Hahaha

Exactly what we have now and you love it.

Figures

The op implied she has no chance because she had no experience and runs on any anti- establishment platform.

I just pointed out that most people said the same thing about the current president.

Is ATS so sensitive now that an observation like that about Trump triggers instant defensive replies?

Op said not a good idea cause no experience in office.

The same reason they bigly love trump.

Ooooooh but trump was an executive so it's fine.

Lol. Get triggered and dismiss any post you don't like as liberal nonsense, then.

What's the point of this site anymore?

Here's the deal. Years ago it would have seemed unthinkable that a largely unknown community organizer who did only 1 stint in the US Senate, could have been elected POTUS.

Years ago, it would have seemed unlikely that a woman, married to a former POTUS, who'd served a term in the US Senate, and a stint as Secretary of State during which the CIA launched the Arab Spring, unseating regimes and causing total chaos across north Africa and the Middle East which resulted in the massacre at the US Consulate in Benghazi caused in large part because the same Secretary of State stood down any support for the Consulate personnel.....would be elected POTUS, but..........she won the popular vote.

So, in time, its altogether possible that this Democrat Socialist woman could be elected POTUS.

And therein lies a genuine truth no one wants to consider. With each election cycle the pendulum swings further and further to the right and then to the left and then cycles even further each time. And the truth no one wants to consider because of this?

The truth is that the US is becoming ever more politically unstable, ungovernable and more divided, so much so, that the US is rapidly becoming financially unstable and ever less attractive as a place to invest.

Yea, things look great right now........full employment, rising GDP, rising wages. But.............Trump gives with one hand and takes with another, tax cuts followed by trade embargoes. Overseas, allies are worried and the US no longer appears to be a stable partner.

So yes, she could be elected POTUS one day and I'd strongly suggest buying gold and silver coins and preparing to ditch stocks, (equities) in favor of bonds.

Haha

Has a reputation as a lot of other things too.

Classic cult of personality.
Forget all the negative #. It's fake or don't matter.
