The best thing about being an American is that anyone can be one no matter where you're from.

We can be proud of that.

Yeah, more than ever since the Trump-"U"SA.

You need to mark sarcastic comments with a sarcasm sign, some people don´t get it otherwise.

Are you having a massive neurological flatulence preventing you from understanding why a person may love there country?

No.
Are you having a problem understanding the question?
I said nothing about love. I'm talking pride
And I do have a problem understanding how people are proud to be an American which is why I asked the question.

As you can see most don't get it including you. A few people answered and I appreciate it.

A good deal of the posts are the tone of yeah I'm proud and if you are not then leave.

Who knew it was such a hard thing to answer

Well its impossible to be proud of something you hate. I answered your question and your not excepting most of peoples answers. You were indoctrinated to not like your country id bet. You probably believe in white privilage and have a lot of negativity in your heart. If anything i feel sorry for your misguided mind and soul.

I'm coming in late to this thread but just reading a few posts I had the need to comment.

Damn right I'm proud to be an America. As it says in my profile I am "American by Choice". I hail from one of the Germanic nations of Europe. Do I get offended? Not really because I know we aren't perfect and a lot of people like to hate winners.

Oh, there is one thing that really annoys the hell out of me (which I really shouldn't admit). It's when Der Beobachter (the observer), quotes the U in USA. Arghhh! It was even worse when you wrote it out as "ununited"! So, now you know how to trigger me

At the time when I became a citizen, I was a progressive liberal American. As I got older, I became more conservative. But, I consider myself unaffiliated to a party. Depending on the platform, I could vote for either. By the way, I travel a lot all over the world and there are countless places I could call home but in the end, there's nothing like these United States of America! Really... absolutely... even with all our problems.

You seem to be another one that is proud but can't or won't explain why.

That's interesting

Proud to be an American? No.

I tend to look at this sort of issue much like George Carlin did.

Pride should be reserved for things you have accomplished in life or what people around you have accomplished. Unless you are an immigrant that went through what it took to become an American, you did not accomplish anything to become an American.

Literally, the fact that you are an American is a matter of chance. A roll of the dice. How can one be proud of dumb luck?

That being said, I am thankful to be an American. I could have been born in any other country, but I wasn't. And for that I am thankful.

But pride? No. I did not do anything to be proud of, in regards to being an American citizen or becoming one.

Maybe the question should be " Is Britain Proud To Have Given Birth To The U.S ? "

Or should we have left it to The Native Indians.

My simple answer is that, if someone is not proud to be an American, or at least proud of this country, then they are compartmentalized people who have probably never traveled abroad, lived abroad, or researched other countries.

I lived in Germany for nearly four years, from age 19-23. I have been down in Mexico multiple times. I have researched the federal laws of other countries numerous times as it pertains to the freedoms guaranteed to its citizenry. I have researched the economic model of many other countries and how it affects the personal compensation of its citizenry. I have researched crime statistics, and drug problems, and simple things like weather and gamut of available topographical areas to visit within the country, and the history of the countries and whether or not they are moving in what I would say is the right direction overall.

After all of that, and with all of the flaws that America bears, I am still proud to live here, proud to have served my country, and proud to be American.

The biggest thing that I'm not proud in America, to be frank, are the way that most Americans act when they're abroad. We have a hubris problem when we're outside of our borders, for the most part, and frankly, it's embarrassing.

If you, individually, don't think that you need to proud to have been born an American, that's fine--be proud that you have not exercised your right to expatriate from this country, then, and continue to choose to remain a citizen here.

Ha...Britain didn't give birth to America any more than a fetus fights its way out of a vagina when the mother doesn't want it to leave.

I'm proud because...

  • Our founders created a nation unlike any other with fundamental rules to create a government system unlike anything that existed at the time
  • Anyone with ambition can become wealthy reglardless of class or status
  • America has been and continues to be a leader in innovation in science and medicine
  • American people have a strong belief in themselves to succeed regardless of their background
  • Our government (although getting worse) is still not overwhelmingly in charge of its people like in Europe or China
  • People in America can behave badly and we tolerate it
  • The country has a huge diversity of geography that you can visit without a passport or government borders
  • A person in Florida can move to Alaska (for example) and find they are welcome and have a common patriotism
  • America was (and to some extent still is) a place citizens of other nations dream about
  • I can buy hundreds of acres of land with not a single soul around for miles

Give me enough time and I'll fill a book.

Please explain how The U.S. would have come into existence without Britain ?

This should be interesting.
