Could you please define what an American is?
Besides birth location.
What country do you live in ?
Are you proud to belong to that country ?
I'm a human on the 3rd rock from the sun.
So , no reason for you to be in the thread ?
The question was , "are you proud to be a US citizen?".
Nothing about "citizens of the world"...
Or "standing on the moon" as you say.
Your thread? Your rules?
News Flash: an open ended question allows varied viewpoints.
That you don't want to accept my viewpoint is not relevant.

I know you weren't asking me...
Yet , I wasn't asking the initial question.
The OP was.
But you did ask the subsequent question.
You know what they say... Don't ask the question if you don't want to know the answer!
So , logically , I should not have gotten an answer from anyone else.

There's much to be proud of, and there's things to be not so proud of...
But, I'm a proud American, and really don't give much of a damn if some disagree.

Got a proud American right here, wouldn't wanna live in any other country although there are a few I'd like to visit. I think it's sad when others aren't proud but hey we live in a free country and they can leave. Of course they can complain all they want as well.

so i am in mellow out mode canada style and i am just letting my thoughts on this go.
it is such a strange concept. such a strange kind of misuse of the word yet so many people have 'pride'
it on clothes
its in songs
its tattooed on people
people let you know they are proud son...... # yeah
btw i am not saying they shouldnt. i am not saying it is stupid. i might clown a little bit cause im a dick but i honestly dont understand it. i dont knock people that do but i dont have it and truly am curious as to how others feel..
thank you to all that got into it and had some discussion.
but of course there are many posts of the "im proud and if theyre not then leave" type. like exactly that.
so are those people 'proud' but dont even know why?
maybe they are proud and just want to tell me like the other dude that they dont have to answer? thats cool too. absolutely dont have to.
but im proud and hike off if youre not is kind of a # answer to an honest question

Thats exactly what i am talking about....
...our pride stems from the laurels of our grandfathers, not from our own actions. In fact, i'd bet that if people were honest with themselves they'd be less than satisfied with the world they are leaving their children.
What do we, as a nation, have to be proud of today? What have we done? Besides let our government get away with some pretty gnarly stuff?
Pride shouldn't be tied to the actions of our grandfathers...its resting on their laurels.
