Grateful? Yes.

I Try Never forget we were just born at the right place and right time.

Life is not always a picnic but I’ll take it over 99% of the other possibilities.

why?

No one has to answer that.

The thing about being AMERICAN ?

We don't have to justify our beliefs to anyone.

Freedom of thought was the first one secured to use by a certain piece of paper.

Im proud to be an American. I don't get offended over other peoples problems living in a free country that they take advantage of. If anyone doesn't like living in the USA, they can use their freedom to purchase a one way trip to a country of their choice and never come back.

Could you please define what an American is?

Besides birth location.

What country do you live in ?
Are you proud to belong to that country ?

I'm a human on the 3rd rock from the sun.

So , no reason for you to be in the thread ?
The question was , "are you proud to be a US citizen?".
Nothing about "citizens of the world"...
Or "standing on the moon" as you say.

Out of curiosity, what did you do to make you proud of being born here? Pride should typically arise from accomplishment, right?

I don't understand pride in things that one is born into. And im not asking in any sort of sarcastic way.

If I may.

Proud of being part of a nation that has accomplished so much and continues to.

Proud of our society that despite our cracks and wrinkles, is still comprised of the best people on Earth.

I've always believed that. I came here believing that and I have never seen evidence to the contrary.

I give thanks to those that had laid the path before me to enjoy these freedoms I take with recognition of how I got them. I am proud that after these many decades have passed, America still represents a country that is more free than the majority of the entire world. We havent given in to tyranny or capitulated to another foreign power. I am proud that I can walk any street without fear of being detained on a whim or harrassed by anyone because I did or said something that was deemed offensive.

It is not only a matter of pride but respect and honor above all.

If you dont get it, you never will. Thats my take.

Your thread? Your rules?

News Flash: an open ended question allows varied viewpoints.

That you don't want to accept my viewpoint is not relevant.

I think it’s more a matter of being proud to “be” an American, not be “born” an “American”. The pride of being an American is easy. Just look back to WWI, WWII, the countries saved by America, the technology America has shared with the world, America winning the cold war, being instrumental in bringing down the Berlin Wall, other improvements around the world. Americans have plenty to be proud of (and some things to be ashamed of); again, for some it’s “being” American that brings the feeling of pride.

I know you weren't asking me... but I come from Australia, also referred to as the 'lucky country', which I think sums it up perfectly.

I mean, I accomplished nothing to be fortunate enough to be born to this part of the rock we all inhabit... so their really isn't anything to be proud of... Some of the 7 billion souls which inhabit this planet may have it better, but then again, theirs a lot more who have it far worse.

So, I feel lucky, not proud.

Some of them don't even wear shoes.

I don't wear shoes... I wear work boots.... Only responding because I actually stopped and tried on a pair of shoes today. I had to leave the store without them. Not to say I have never worn or owned shoes.

I know you weren't asking me...

That is a correct and true statement.
Yet , I wasn't asking the initial question.
The OP was.

Yes I am proud to be an American.

Not the same with regards to my view towards the case for pride when Uncle Sam uses God and Country’s namesake for endless foreign war.

I think most misuse the word Proud to be, because they know they shouldn't really say
"I Feel beeter than you" because add nationality .

Americans should be no more proud or un proud than any other citizen from any other country.

It all stems from ego in my mind .. which in it's basest form is just pure slefishness... me me me.

I'm better than you because ... so i'm proud to be ...

Ummm...nope...I’m not proud to be an American...

That would just be silly...

Proud of what...the never ending war...?

The unbreachable ideological divide...?

The feeling of being continuously played...?

Knowing that every dollar I put on the table to exist socially...helps keep the paradigm fed as well...?

The list is virtually endless...

There would have to be such a huge and dramatic shift in consciousness...an order of magnitude Gnosis or enlightenment...where this version of reality were replaced by universal altruism...for me to have any sort of pride in my country...or my fellows...

Quite unfortunately I’m a realist and a student of the human condition...there ain’t a snowballs chance in hell of that particular dream to move from rem to reality...

Try again my friend...

Other than the admittance that you stand upon the shoulders of giants you didn't exactly answer his question. I tend to agree that pride comes with accomplishments. Kinda like most people can have children, not everyone can be parents... The latter brings a sense of accomplishment, the former can often bring a sense of disgust. We've all seen terrible parenting and lives ruined.

Good thread TinySickTears
I enjoy threads like these, I tend to learn something.

There was a reason , on topic , I asked the question of another member.
So , logically , I should not have gotten an answer from anyone else.
