Soccer player Megan Rapinoe and WNBA star Sue Bird just became the first openly gay couple to appear on the cover of ESPN’s iconic body issue.

Rapinoe, a forward for the U.S. women’s national team, and Bird, a point guard for the Seattle Storm, made their relationship public last year. The two discussed just how honored they are to be the first openly gay couple featured in the body issue. “I think neither of us really wants to just do things and be like, ‘We’re the gay couple,’” Rapinoe said. “But to have this really unique vehicle to actually do that, to celebrate who we are in our sport, but also the fact that we’ll be the first gay couple, is pretty special. It’s pretty amazing to think about, especially in the times we’re in. Just think of how far we’ve come, but also the current climate and defiance in the face of that. Not only are we female athletes, but we’re dating as well. It’s kind of badass.”

so what do you think?

Bird, 37, added that she hopes that in the future, a gay couple featured in a magazine won’t be news and will simply be normal.

i feel like we as a people have come so far but when i see these stories i feel like we are just getting started.
it is midway through 2018 and this is a first

seems like such a non issue to me.

do you have a problem with this? if so, why?

forward motion. progress. equality.

i think its a good thing

Two lesbian females naked on the cover of a magazine that is (presumably) mostly purchased by males.

Sounds like more of the same. Nothing outside the realm of normalcy.

It's only on a cover because they are neked.

I guess female exploitation is acceptable when it pushes anything LGBT for the progs to digest.

Yeah, I do have an issue with it.

I don't enjoy it. I don't find it hawt.

It's the same reason that I don't chase the "Letter Salad" romance lines in video games just for variety. They just don't appeal, and I don't care.

They knew what they were doing by selecting females. Someday down the road they may throw a couple dudes in there, and when it happens there will be backlash. Understandable backlash as long as it stays within reason, IMO.

I picked up one of those mags and was staring at Prince Fielders naked arse one time. I was so triggered...I turned the page.

Yea, they know what they are doing and it's very safe. (Playing into a long known sexual fantasy).

If they didn't agree to go neked, doubt they would have made the cover.

Next up, neked bearded ladies.

She'll still have my blood pressure high when she's 40 and "sagging." You say that like it's a bad thing. You do realize most women, after they've had a couple of kids, fill out a bit, ya? I find my wife even hotter now than I found her 16 years ago before we had the kids. I'm not going to detail it for you, you either get it or you don't, but dude... I wholeheartedly disagree with you here.
