The Food and Drug Administration approved the prescription cannabidiol medicine Monday to treat rare and severe forms of epilepsy.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb also issued an immediate statement saying this wasn’t an approval of marijuana, in general — and said anyone wanting to use cannabis-based products to treat disease must prove they are safe and that they work.

FDA approves cannabis-based drug CBD for epilepsy

So the weed that has no Medical use has now been approved for a specific Medical use.

Of course thats not an "approval" of the plant.

Think They will let real Research begin?

This has to be fake news.

NBC. Definitely fake news!

In awe.

Although theres already about enough medical states now they're sitting as a de facto Constitutional Amendment.

They certianly should.

A good friend of mine is severely epileptic. He would have up to 10 grand mal seizures a year, and about 6 a year with the gnarly big pharma meds.

Once he started smoking herb, he went 3 years without a single seizure. He had one about 7 months ago, and that has remained the only one.

I fully support CBD being recognized for its highly medicinal properties and there should be no debate.

I wish they would stop using the term "CBD oil" when talking about "cannabis oil" because one is made from hemp and has to below a certain percentage THC. The other is very useful for people who's own brain does not manufacture the oil which is nearly the same shape as cannabis oil molecules which does alleviate that specific kind of seizures.

Looking at the story, the FDA has approved a drug from a drug company that is essentially cannabis oil but that they "cleaned up".

Big pharma getting bigger at the expense of a plant and "weed kills" mentality from the puritan 1950s.

Just give us the plant extracts that we can make or buy ourselves without any company selling it behind an expensive label, especially a pharmaceutical one!

I am all for this type of therapy. Just a note tho......this drug, Epidiolex, does not contain the psychotrpic component THC. In Pennsylvania we can buy CBD oils over the counter if the THC content is 0.3% or less.

This country needs to bring back the citizen grand jury, or end the justice system.

It is one-sided and purely profit based with everything.

Load the laws and regulations, imprison people, fine/tax and record system them into poverty.

Dipsheet pharmies are giving the fda payoffs to pass their drugs as usual, when it's a gd weed.

Rolling in yachts, laughing at how stupid we all are.

I was looking at the proposed Mechanism of Action for this drug. It always cool to do so, but so often you will find they they THINK it works this way, but are not 100% sure....kind of scary as well with all the medications out there. Anyways, it appears CBD may exert a cumulative anti-convulsant effect, modulating a number of endogenous systems including, but not limited to neuronal inhibition (synaptic and extrasynaptic GABA channels), modulation of intracellular calcium (TRPV, VDAC, GPR55), and possible anti-inflammatory effects (adenosine).

Makes sense that it would work on GABA.....it is a very potent inhibitory neurotransmitter, that when activated inhibits most of the others. It is the same way that diazepam, lorazepam, alprazolam, clonazepam etc are thought to work as well.

No, it's a weed, period.

Nothing needs to be given, especially the gd rights they weren't allowed to take away in the first place.

It's time to get gov back to it's original purpose, back to the constitution, remove all the bs laws they illegally have granted themselves power to create.

It's all bs, greedy, middlemen who want to not work and extract everyones wealth.

It goes deeper than the weed issue. They have everything rigged.

From all the laws to what you are allowed to produce. (Patent system, regulations, taxes, etc)

It's starting to choke out our country.

We are not represented. We are controlled and kept down by these market rigging and wealth stealing scum.

Sorry, rant not directed at you, I'm just starting to get sick of the bs game.

Sorry? Don’t be sorry, be honest. And you have been 100% honest about the issue and 100% right!

Keep bringing it!!

Oh, I am in agreement with you!!

It is the reporting that sucks because they are not delineating the difference which to people means, “all weed.” Cannabis is not hemp! So don’t use the same terms interchangeably! That was my post’s point. Kind of a rant too!

If people can eat a plant, even if they get high, and it is cheaper than pills, well it doesn’t take differential calcus to see which is better.

(CBD oil of course!)

This puts the DEA and the DoJ in a very difficult position.

According to this article from Reuters, the DEA has 90 days to re-classify marijuana and allow the sale of the drug or to say it cannot be sold.

Based on the potential for abuse, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) categorizes chemicals into five schedules, with Schedule 1 substances - like marijuana and heroin - considered the most deadly and deemed to have no medical benefits.

As a result, Epidiolex’s launch remains at the discretion of the DEA, which must now evaluate the drug and consider reclassifying it as a substance that has medical properties, so as to allow GW to begin selling it.

GW said it expects the reclassification to occur within 90 days. The company has not yet set a price for the drug and said it would work with insurance providers to ensure the medicine would be covered under health plans.

-copy and pasted from other thread about this-

In a few months there will be plenty of research happening. We're still learning about the endocannabinoid system, and how the natural terpenes of the plant have as much of an impact as the THC and CBD.

This plant scares the hell out of big pharma because it works best with minimal processing, their industry could be ravaged by back yard gardening!

Is this CBD oil thats been approved for epilepsy the same as any other CBD oil?

Is this saying that CBD oil, in general, has been approved?
