Chinese Rituals and Christianity

As I live in China I often accompany friends to different temples, sometimes the go to the temples for fun, for holidays, or for ritual. I never participate fully but will do some things. I won't bow 3 times to a statue but will light 3 incense sticks and 2 candles.

When I accompany my wife to the cemetary to visit her late mother the same ritual is used, the 3 incense sticks, 2 candles and 3 bows.

QUESTION: If I participate in these rituals am I breaking some kind of religious law?
