California is not doing great. It has the highest homeless population in the nation.

"The HUD report lists California’s total homeless population at 134,278. That’s about one quarter of the national homeless population of 553,742."

This is a social pushback against those who help Trump. People who work in the WH can no longer get dates in the DC area, they are being kicked out of businesses, and most of them are having to leave their WH experience off of their resume when job searching, because including it is making them unhireable.

And that's a good thing. It means some people in America still see what's going on and refuse to help those who promote fascism, concentration camps, and corruption.

Ahhaha..if you looneys keep talking about it enough you will get the cages you so badly wish for.

Personally i give a 2 year countdown to your fascism concentration camps and corruption.

Of course you and those that think as you do will be sacrificed first...as do all flunkys who fail in these matters, and in this manner throughout the Universe.

Do you really foresee anything but total annihilation?

It is imprinted and inscribed in your foreheads.

Would you speak that way to someone in person?

What possible good does that serve? Are you showing a better way?

Why?

Here's that study they're reporting on.

www.usnews.com...

The reason California is doing bad on those metrics is due to the inaccessibility of housing and rapid gentrification of neighborhoods. If you limit such a poll to just the people who are working decent jobs (say $100k and up) the state fares much better. It's not a fun place to be a McDonalds worker.

This is rich, if true.

It may have already been brought up in this thread and maybe I missed it. But, in light of the comparison to the baker not wanting to decorate a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, I just thought it was funny:

She was at home when the chef called her, and drove to The Red Hen to see for herself. The kitchen was preparing Sanders’ party’s main course. Wilkinson said several of their employees were gay and knew Sanders had defended President Donald Trump’s statements about banning transgender people from the military, and they were also all concerned about the immigration debate. Wilkinson said she asked her staff if they wanted her to ask Sanders to leave, and the staff said yes.

It does. Part of that is because of the high cost of living. Upper lower class in LA and San Francisco is $100k/year and median middle class is $350k/year. That means that a lot of people who don't have the educations or connections to get those jobs (a SF city janitor makes $230k/year), have a lot of trouble affording housing in the cities.

Throw in the fact that due to it's excellent weather, most states also bus all of their homeless to California, LA and San Diego in particular. California for it's part, then ships some of them to Hawaii but most remain in CA.

What?

Let me check with the local homeless folks and find out when their state bus is leaving for Cali.

I don't sign in often anymore but this...just wow.

It's a very common practice, here's an article on it from last year.

Gentrification and income inequality come from the free market, not government.

So according to your Guardian article, cities give homeless people bus tickets. In this case San Francisco gave homeless people bus tickets.

Far cry from "states bus all of their homeless to California"

Is that why they are leaving in record numbers and moving to AZ?

People are moving primarily because there's too many good jobs in too confined a space, and that's resulting in huge cost of living increases in what was already an expensive area. You can see the same thing going on with Austin, Texas which has experienced a boom as well as Seattle. Texas is taking in so many people with California's values these days that the state is going to be blue within the next few years.

The people leaving California are for the most part not the skilled labor force, it's the unskilled who makes 20-30k per year and can't afford to live in the state any longer

I hear it is Middle and Upper Middle not 20-30k.

Some say part of the migration is due to new taxes that start at 40+k in cali.

The idea of blue states facing loss of taxes suggests it is the wealthy moving, the ones that pay most of the taxes, not the poor.

Yes, California ships them out of CA too, they're most well known for sending people on 1 way airplane trips to Hawaii as it's harder to come back from. When 47 states (excludes Hawaii and Alaska) are sending people to you by bus, even when you send some back, it results in a very high homeless population. That's in addition to the other factors such as gentrification and high costs of living that stem from having a specialized highly paid industry as the backbone of the states economy.

Ah, the law of unintended consequences is once more enforced. Bet "the staff" consisted of the whiners among the staff. Wonder how many days of work they're willing to give up because they don't like the administration's politics?

It looks like Ms. Wilkinson is enjoying the fruits of her labor and has plenty of other enterprises to fall back on if this one fails. I feel more sorry for her suppliers who will also have trouble if the restaurant fails due to her climbing on her high horse.
