100 years old? No. He's a 100,000 years old alien scientist that have been here on Earth for far too long.

I wonder if Phage is Jesus the alien?

Actually I do wonder that myself sometimes.

Still amazes me what has thrived there. Literally nothing to volcanic islands, I realize birds can carry some in over the millions of years. The islands are lush with fauna and flora, and how did that happen to isolated lands?

Dogs, Cats, cattle were brought in as well as sugar canes, coffee trees and Dole Pinapples.
But the natural life there.
I could never get island fever there.

When I get out on the water, way out, where there is no visible sign of man, I wonder what this place was like when the first Polynesians found it.

Fresh water everywhere. Plump birds that can't fly running around everywhere. Trees everywhere. And nothing, nothing (on land) that can harm you.

A word comes to mind. It starts with the letter "p."

This is precisely my point, thanks for making my point in a much better phrase.
P?
I'm intrigued.
If you know it, please share if you wish.

Edit: ice age? Could Hawaii have had an ice bridge? Im thinking no, but 'PELE' created all the life there.

I reckon they might have been fleeing from (poisonous!) yellow-bellied sea snakes. According to wiki they are the only sea snakes to make it to Hawaii.

Give me a 6'2" swallowtail thruster and I can fly on water.

At least...I could.
