Nobody but nobody does dehumanizing better than the Right. The fact that right-wingers then have the nerve to be self-aggrieved on top of it is truly amazing.

Let's just start with the big cheese himself, Donald "The Dehumanizer" Trump, and his bread and butter dehumanizing nativist rhetoric.

From day one:

When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending the best. They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they're telling us what we're getting.

straight through till now:

Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13

I could fill pages with quotes of Trump dehumanizing illegal immigrants easily and every single person reading this knows it, including all of the Trump supporters. Initially, some in the mainstream Right were a little hesitant to join in but under the cover of "I'm not PC" and with Trump taking over the party, this sort of thing has become the new norm:

But these kids get fanned out to working-class neighborhoods into our society. And then they have to be paid for by English is a second language. And then they got to be schooled and a lot of them, sadly, in my neighborhood, turn into MS-13

That's Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade three days ago, picking up exactly what Trump is laying down. See, when you look at these illegal immigrants as people just like your own forebearers, making a dangerous journey in hopes of a better life as human beings just like you, with all the same hopes and dreams and desires as you, who love their families like you do, then nasty things like empathy can get in the way of you hating them and fearing them.

That's why they must be seen as violent criminals, job stealers, mooches come to steal the food out your childrens' mouths — REMEMBER KATE FOLKS — these "invaders" who "infest" your country want to kill you and your children.

A statistic often cited by Republicans, coming from a 2009 report by the FBI, is an estimate that there are as many as 10,000 people in the United States with some level of affiliation to MS-13. The DHS estimates that there are about 11.4 million people illegally residing in the United States. If we take that estimate as accurate and assume for the sake of argument calcthat all 10,000 of these gang members and their associates are among this group, that would mean that 1 out of every 1,140 is affiliated to MS-13 or .08% or less than 1/10th of 1 percent.

Fun fact, according to the FBI, over 73 million Americans have been arrested and/or convicted for a felony. That works out to be, hold on to your pants folks, 29.5% of adult Americans.

That's how the dehumanizing game works though. You have to gaslight the # out of your base into believing that people in a certain demographic represent a huge threat to you and yours and your way of life so that you can then offer up "solutions" to make the irrational fear go away.

And the way you do that is by repeatedly associating that group with as much horrible # as you can muster as often and from as many mouthpieces as possible.

Trump doesn't get all the credit though, he merely picked up where other right-wing politicians left off and ran with the ball across the goal line. And beyond that, this sort of nativist dehumanization is a time honored tradition enjoyed by American conservatives for centuries.

This isn't even coming close to scratching the surface. Don't forget the Muslim "invaders" — all terrorists of course — who are "infesting" our country. Thank European Jesus that Donald Trump can remind us all how much "they" hate us.

It's not just illegal immigrants and Muslims that right-wingers must be afraid of either. After all, the programmers can't have you listening to reason from "the other side" and ruining their efforts.

So it's necessary for conservatives, aka "real Americans," who are a "silent majority" (also a "moral majority"), the gun toting gatekeepers of truth, justice and the real American way, the most victimized people in the history of history, to realize just how much everyone else wants to destroy our country... because they hate freedom, they hate America, they hate God and most of all, they hate YOU.

Just listen to Tucker!

They don't care because no matter what they tell you this is not about helping children. A lot of people yelling at you on TV don't even have children. So, don't for a second let them take the moral high ground.

Their goal is to change your country forever and they're succeeding by the way. Since 2014, to name one example among many, at least half a million Central Americans who came here illegally have been released back inside our borders. Did anyone vote for that?

And more to the point who is going to pay for that. Not the people you've been watching on television today. Their kids go to private school if they have them. Their neighborhoods look exactly like they did in 1960. No demographic change at all. Just like they like it.

There's no cost to them. The cost is entirely on you, but don't complain or else they will call you Hitler.

They're NOT LIKE YOU. They don't have kids. They don't really care about anything, it's pretend! They don't live in YOUR neighborhoods! But they want to "CHANGE YOUR COUNTRY FOREVER!"

For the record. These Fox News assholes ARE "the elites" and they don't live in your effing neighborhood either. Tucker Carlson is rich af and he wasn't born into a working class family. His dad was a news anchor turned director of Voice of America and one time Ambassador to Seychelles. His stepmother, an heiress to the Swanson foods fortune.

Moving along though. Let's consider the NRA:

You may be asking yourself, what the actual f does that have to do with the Second Amendment. Nothing. It's just a friendly reminder that THEY are out to get YOU and you need to be VERY afraid and buy a lot more guns. And talking about dehumanizing people, how about this bit from Eric Trump about Democrats:

I've never seen hatred like this, and to me they're not even people. It's so, so sad, I mean morality is just gone, morals have flown out the window we deserve so much better than this as a country.

Is it possible to dehumanize people more than by literally saying that "they're not even people" ?

Nice whataboutism. Problem is, those of us not "left" or "right" think the left and right are nuts.

Once you lose your freedom to oppress others then what do you have left...oh yeah, the rule of law.

Maybe people would not be so violent towards the authoritarians if the rule of law were based on justice.

It's always a lot of fun to see authoritarians playing the role of whiny victim!

You have it all wrong. The centrists are he insane ones who just pick either side of an issue like they choose their favorite flavor of ice cream. Republicans are generally pro-business, no regulations, anti-worker, pro-pollution. Liberals tend to be more concerned about the purchasing power of the worker's take home pay.

The problem is both parties no longer represent the people but just the lobbyists giving them campaign contributions. Money equals access. Money equals representation. The Supreme Court justices have ruled against representative democracy for the time being. Corporations ARE the government!

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power." Benito Mussolini

First off, this is not a complaint about or towards anyone calling me a Nazi. Trust me, I'm used to it.

Don't be to hard on your girl mate... In her defence, you do kind of occasionally come across as a "Nazi"...

After mainly lurking here for many years, I can say with a high degree of confidence that DB is so to Nazi's what Godzilla is to My Little Pony.

Oh boy ... here we go. And this is why we have such a divide, people take things way to literally.

Yes, yes we all know the Nazi's played the system to get a democratic vote.
"We must band together!" (Except those who we can blame for our own short comings)
"We are a strong nation, we can all work to make it better!" (while focusing our hate on a minority and turning them into slaves)
"We can send a message to the world that we are strong!" (boost economy by segregating themselves and cutting off all ties to the world so they can rebuild their army, and invade neighbors)

The Nazi party was a blip of socialism to gain the trust of the people, but it had much sinister means. Literally world domination and imposing their laws, rules, authoritarian control on Europe if not the entire world if they had the chance.

It literally is a far right ideology. I don't get why people can't comprehend that FAR RIGHT is not slightly right leaning, or conservative. It's not black and white.

The reason is that Far Right doesn't really mean anything. It's a term used to band up any kind of individualistic form of governance together and make it sound like anyone who cares about their sovereignty must be a racist.

You don't just get to say, the Nazi's were a little bit socialist yes, but then it all went wrong, ergot they must have been far right.

It's ridiculous.

When you base a form of governance around identity politics and wealth distribution (see the Nazis, the EU etc.) the inevitable consequence is social strife and economic disaster, because maths.

The terms "right and left" do have historical meanings. HIstorically, the political right is authoritarian and nationalist.

As far as "da Nazis" go ... if you ever read what Hitler, Goebbels and the rest actually SAID, you'd see rather quickly that they admitted that "their Socialism" was merely hypernationalism. They twisted and corrupted the trends in the early 20th century towards workers rights (as opposed to the rights of factory owners) held by groups like the German Workers Party into the exact, same, sick crap-lousy fake patriotism we see today.

Let me break it to you, as gently as I can: ALL GOVERNMENTS ARE AUTHORITARIAN.

Governments are bought and paid for by the rich and powerful.

Republicans and Democrats are not right and left: they are authoritarians bought and paid for by the international corporations.

Yes, right and left did mean something historically, but today, they're literally just memes brought to you by those international corporate assholes who don't give a crap about you or your family or what AMERICA might mean or might once have meant.

"But Gryph, you communist douche, why do you hate America?"

I don't hate America. America was a concept that had really never been seen in the history of the world in our beginnings.

Think about the Constitution. We have seven Articles establishing the structure of the government (authoritarian) but each are designed basically to set one part of the government against the other (separation of powers, checks and balances) to insure that OUR government never becomes a mere dictatorship (oligarchy, theocracy, etc.) or holds consolidated power over the People.

What comes next in our Constitution? The Bill of Rights.

The American Bill of Rights came to serve as a model for all countries that were TRYING to break apart the traditional authoritarian power structures of monarchy, the church, and the monied class and acknowledge that EACH INDIVIDUAL has certain rights SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THEIR EXISTENCE.

The PEOPLE have rights, not the damned government.

If you want to know how long that lasted, you can look at the years of George Washington's presidency.

Immediately after that, the power brokers, the TPTB of the time had already managed to split the country in two: Federalists and Democratic-Republicans.

Federalists were focused on the power of government and the rights of the landed/monied. The D-R's (Jefferson) stood against that and focused on the rights of INDIVIDUALS.

Of course, then when the D-Rs got into power, THEY were the government, THEY were "THE MAN" ... and suddenly, individual rights "had to be measured" by the needs of ... you guessed it ...

Nationalism is great AS LONG AS it focuses on the People of a nation, and the rights and priviledges of those People.

However, what we see time after time, is that nationalism/patriotism just becomes another wrench in the toolbox of the elite powermongers, the TPTB, the military-industrial complex, etc. etc.

So ask yourself, the next time Ol' Glory waves and the Star Spangled Banner plays ... does that make you proud to be an individual?

Or does it make you want to OBEY?

Everyone is secretly horrible. Everyone is a hypocrite. Everyone is a propagandist.

Welcome to the social media age.

Thrive or die.

The OP has done everything they rant against. For craps and giggles when they need a little boost to get through the day. So has everyone else. Daily, conservatives call out liberals for doing the same stuff they do. Then liberals call out conservatives for doing the same stuff they do. Then both try to claim the moral high ground and bump into each other three stooges style, comically falling, and while each is falling over they call each other hypocrites.

Everyone uses the same freaking playbook. The exact same playbook. Then they cry about the other team using it. What about this. What about that. I have a meme for both.

People are people. Followers are followers. The only difference between them is what overlord they let bend them over at night when that days following is done.

"You are a racist Nazi who eats babies," says the unhappy American who hates their life and lacks control over it.

"You are an unamerican libtard who eats babies," says the unhappy American who hates their life and lacks control over it.

Then both say in unison,"At least I am not you."

A tad of peril with Persil White and the whitewashing will commence as if all that doesn't exist. Dehumanization is perfectly fine by now, ya know? We've refined it for a reason, and we're not going to postprone The Ultimate Revolution for you virtue signaling leftists.

"And it seems to me perfectly in the cards that there will be within the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing ⦠a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda, brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods."

There's money to be made and all this condescending crap doesn't write itself. Truth is just another poor socialist hanging from a cross, get over it already?
I really hope (for the sake of your own gubmint rating) that you took your stand for singing the anthem there.

Ironically, it was/is the Nazis, themselves, whom historically institutionalized the dehumanization of over 6 million other people.

There is a danger in society when you dehumanize your opponent to such a degree that violence against the target is not only acceptable, but encouraged.

I absolutely agree. Let's stop dehumanizing people. All of us.

Advocating violence against others because of racial, sexual, or any other prejudice is a hate crime.

Let's all stand against all hate crime.

I agree with what you are trying to do here, but "hate crime" is just another label. I've seen it overused and abused perhaps as much as "Nazi", if not more. Sheesh, I've seen posts here equating supporting Trump to a hate crime.

I think DB is right, we need to just be aware it's happening and consciously try to avoid throwing arbitrary labels on everything and everyone.
