And apart from the GAO, who do you think is running oversight of the system other than the people running the operations of it? Are you being mindlessly pedantic? Who is responsible for oversight?

The missions are being done by multiple branches in overlapping concern in many cases, all of which already branch off of Puzzle Palace, the world's mightiest bureaucracy.

These are the same arguments presented for keeping military aviation under the thumb of the Signal Corps, and I think you're just as wrong.

But Trump is for it, so it must be bad. I understand.

Who is responsible for oversight?

The DOD.

No. It's just a stupid idea.

He should have listened to "his generals", but it seems someone held up something shiny for him.
Pew!

DOD

Thanks for clearing that up. Who is given that mission by the DoD? Oh, that's right... I mean, by extension the SecNav isn't responsible for securing our waterways or naval oversight, it is the DoD with "oversight" from the GAO.

You could have just said you were being mindlessly pendantic.

I'll leave you to your Trumpisms.

What mission? Oversight? Pretty sure the DOD retains that to itself.

You could have just said you were being mindlessly pendantic.
When I do that I point it out myself.

I'll leave you to your Trumpisms.
I'll leave you with our president who is attracted by shiny objects.

Pew!

You forgot about Congressional oversight, the GAO, and of course, the POTUS over the DoD. So GPS oversight will have to go to one of them, pedanticly.

I've never once mentioned the President in this conversation because his position does not define mine and the arguments merits fall beyond whether he supports it or not to my mind. I understand that you cannot separate the two as you repeatedly bring him up. pew, pew.

Frankly, it's unfortunate that the bipartisan effort coming out of the armed services committee is drowned out by all your pews. But hey, it makes great copy for the "Drumpf is a dolt" crowd.

Oh.
I thought you thought that his idea was a good one. I must have misunderstood.

My apologies.

No, I think the resurrected idea out of the Armed Services Committee with bipartisan sponsorship which he endorsed was a good idea. And would regardless of his position.

It's going to be like Moonraker.
Or starship troopers.

Probably end up with tribbles instead of space biker chicks.

I don't like bugs.

Big vicious smart, space bugs. '

Space snakes ok, I can deal.

Why not? No one else has a space force.

Maybe use the illegal immigrant kids to build the space base!!

Win/win!

I can only guess Trump saw star ship troopers and cane up with this using his towering intellect. This is stupid and frankly anyone thinking this was a good idea has watched to much science fiction. Making a branch of service whos only mission would be launch satellites is stupid. Considering airforce would still handle missile testing. Sometimes the orange one just amazes me because he doesn't act like he has a degree from an ivy league school. Makes me wonder if he paid for his degree.

Sounds like you think he is 86'ing NASA.

Maybe not a bad idea?

Trump seemed to think that the "separate but equal" phrase was praiseworthy ... par for the course.

Hay if he's gonna do that ,put it under Naval command and not just because I'm positively biased in favor of the Navy, but it makes better sense.

Why?

"We have ships to command, and captains and sh*t!" (Navy)
"Yeah, but your ships are FLYING. So they are at least in a very crucial part airplanes!" (Air Force)
"And then you start shooting bullets and throwing stones!" (Marine Corps)
"Aren't you protecting the borders with those space thingies?" (Coast Guard)
"Uh.. we could put tanks into space, too?" (Army)

Yes, this is futile, as even laying the bottom foundation of this Armed Forces will take DECADES, knowing buerocracy and infighting parts of the Armed Forces (see above).
