Whats it really like? Risk wise?

Contrary to the BS being sold by some American posters, she won't require a burka or have to kneel before the Queen. Although we're supposedly under Sharia Law, it won't be noticeable at all. They won't be groped at the airport either. They won't be asked to give Customs their phones or devices. There's likely to be a lot of normal people doing normal things despite living in a Totalitarian State with the jackboot of Socialism (and Islam!) pressing down upon them.

Practically zero risk. They'll stay in London rather than the satellite boroughs, right? Catch a show or something in the West End. Eat out in central London no problems at all. Biggest risk is the costs. Tourism in London is extremely expensive.

I guess I'm lucky, it is a different world in my parts, you'll be lucky to see a PCSO let alone a cop, we kind of police ourselves, and it works well, strong community, strong society, strong tribe.

Lol. I was in Cornwall last year and the only Police I saw were sat in the local Weatherspoon's every morning drinking coffee.

Haha yes cops are a rare sight here...but to be fair we like it that way.
Feels more like freedom, and we aren't stabby with each other either, even allowed glass glasses for our pints outside these days since glassing people in the face became frowned upon by the general community.

I might be 'out of school' here, but I don't think he was referring to this happening in the UK. I think he meant right here in the US, and it does happen. The TSA is out of control!

In any case, I don't think I'd be worried in the UK at all. It's FAR safer than many of the places I've had to travel to!!

Plus, I LOVE me some good fish & chips! MMmmmmMMMMmmmmmmMM!! (doesn't like me, but I love it). You guys really need to work on your beef though! It's already dead, you don't have to kill it twice more, you know. LOL!

323 AD is when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.

And you're gonna have to walk me through how greed spread multiculturalism through slavery.

That's what I was saying. The only xray machines over here are for scanning luggage and almost nobody gets the pat down. Customs officers are generally aloof whereas the TSA have earned a reputation for snark and being overbearing.

Yes on the beef. Don't even bother to order it unless it's in a decent restaurant. Pubs serve it like shoe leather and only the watery gravy saves it from being dry. Proper restaurants will do a blue steak if requested. The thing is it's UK culture to prefer steaks 'well done' so that's what they serve by default. Rare all the way for me.

My wife, being an American woman, would probably love her chance to kneel before the queen. She is awestruck with all things royal, for some reason I can't ridicule her out of.

I didn't expect it would be all that crazy, especially in high traffic areas. But she's my everything....so i have to ask.

She'll be fine. Lots to do (and spend) with typical tourist things like Thames boat trips and visits to Parliament. Nightlife is great with shows on every night and lots of shopping areas in the day. Schools across the country do annual trips to London so it's safe enough. I don't know anyone who hasn't enjoyed a visit. Usual city rules apply like being aware of your surroundings.

It's a huge place with parks and historic landmarks everywhere you look. Too much to see in a couple of days and a week is probably too long. Best thing is plan ahead and maybe check out Trip Advisor to see what most people think of different locations.

It can easily become overwhelming with how busy it is and that's really down to taste. If she doesn't mind city crowds, it'll be fine.

Amazon has lockers in a lot of big stores that work like PO Boxes. The legislation says no 'residential addresses' which makes me wonder if knives can be delivered to the Amazon boxes or actual PO boxes where ID is required for collection.

There are reputable mail order retailers who will need to plan ahead to survive. These guys sell some high-end bushcraft and survival knives that 99.99% of people will only use on their farms or for hiking or camping.

There aren't many physical stores selling good knives in the UK. Some outdoors-focused ones sell Gerbers and maybe a ka-bar or two, but not so many. The business is mail-order based and I wonder if we'll end up with similar situations to the USA with retailers having stocks confiscated.
