In April, Google announced an initiative called Project Owl to provide “algorithmic updates to surface more authoritative content” and stamp out fake news stories from its search results.

To some, that was an uncomfortable step toward Google becoming an arbiter of what is and is not a trustworthy news source.

“They’re really skating on thin ice,” said Michael Bertini, a search strategist at iQuanti, a digital marketing agency. “They’re controlling what users see. If Google is controlling what they deem to be fake news, I think that’s bias.”

www.nytimes.com...

Everyone is well aware that Google is censoring, but judging by even just what is happening on their YouTube platform, it is anything that is NOT leftist that is being removed, censored and demonetized.

Wrong again.

You'll have to give evidence for that claim. Apparently Google doesn't discriminate what is left and right.

It's fine to claim "by mistake" but when those channels remain demonetized, it's not a mistake, it's intentional. Mark Dice channel for example.

That's good that they admitted it was a mistake. Millions of content go through every day so it's hard to keep track of them.

Here's a good article to read.

I wouldn't, "suspect, ... "Google", would "restrict", ..anything, Commie political or "progressive", ...with the "righ"t to,.. "free speech" and all. You'd/one would think, (they'd) be "neutral" normally? In a F'd up sort of way? .. Google, is a bad plumber, in a town, with only one bad plumber. You take it for what it's worth.
No other options..

Umm No. If this was a mistake, demonetized channels would have been restored.

I'm an adult.
I don't need self-appointed Big Brother to decide what is appropriate for me.

I would agree that they should have been restored but do you have proof that it happened other than Mark Dice's own words?

Because Dice would actually WANT to have the videos he depends on for income demonetized as a full time YouTuber ?

Think, just think for a moment....

Another example is Thunderfoot:
twitter.com...

Look, the point is FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.
If YOU want to be "protected", Google could just make it optional, like the optional restricted mode on YouTube.

You seem to want to control what OTHER people are allowed to see - control freak much ?

Like I said they should be restored. And I don't want to control what other people are allowed to see. If it was up to me I would allow the most hateful videos and comments ever. But then again with sites like Youtube and ATS we have to abide to their TOS.

With Google, it's not just about YouTube or ANYONE's terms of service. It's essentially a de-facto monopoly (that should be broken up btw) that seeks to control what search users see ANYWHERE on the Internet. The Internet is not Google's domain.

P.S. Having a different point of view is not about having access to "hateful" material. You expose your point of view and your style.

P.P.S. Say hi to your "family in Russia".LOLOLOLOLOL

According to the new U.S. Department of Justice definition of "bias", it's almost impossible for any search engine, or person, to be biased. The bar is set really high now.

I would expect Google to block access to lots more conservative news sites since they are the ones that promote "fake news" and "conspiracy theories" the most.

However, I'm not surprised that this new algorithm also targets sites such as "The World Socialist Website" it sounds like the leftist equivalent to Alex Jones or something worse. I'm not well-versed in the names of right-wing fake news sites. I went ahead and checked out a bunch of the articles available on the website, and they seem sketchy, sensationalist at the very least... it reminds me of Fox News, only worse... I'm not sure how I would be able to prove on short notice that "The World Socialist Website" peddles in the fake news sometimes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did after taking a look at what it has to offer.

If the algorithm does its job, it will target websites that promote fake news whether or not they are liberal or conservative, so this is all to be expected.

Exactly. But the narrative that "leftist" Google only target the conservative websites make some people on the right happy for some reason.
