for a couple weeks now, my little envelope icon has not been changing to opaque white when i have new messages or notifications. it just stays clear.

I had a similar issue.

Could be a problem with the system, but I cleared my cache and it appeared to work.

Yes, I get that. I think it may be a general issue. I've been routinely checking for messages, just in case.

Some work was being done on the database, and the icon was disabled. You'll have to check on your messages manually for now.

Mine hasnt worked since my return to keyboard in 2016.
