Would you burn, "Mein Kompf"?

Burning and removing Mein Kampf are two different things.

Bull#.

You seriously think that's the same thing? One is completely destroying a book and the other one is just a simple relocation.

Sure, don't burn the books, just put them where they can't be read.

That's called hiding.

LOL - antifa and bike-lock logic is 'evolving' now is it?? Removing optics that trigger your feelings is 'evolving' now is it?? The only ones who DO NOT care about history & statues are the new brainwashed generation - I call them 'The Feckless C***s'

A good friend of mine has a term for these people.

He calls them "The Confidently Ignorant".

Perfect in my opinion!

Yep. To museums or private properties where everyone can view them. Win-win.

That's funny... Bulls On Parade, written by Rage Against the Machine has the following lyrics...
genius.com...

I walk tha corner to tha rubble, that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetery now!
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive and movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books, they just remove 'em

RATM's politics are decidedly liberal, liberal progressive, to be accurate. The lyric's meaning is generally been taken to indicate a fascist movement to propagandize and glorify war by quietly removing the literature and any material which doesn't gel with that pro-war propaganda from the libraries and information outlets rather than openly destroying/burning the materials that don't meet the authority's criteria as in eras past. It's sort of a nod to the informational velvet revolution...

In other words, your position than burning and removal are two different things isn't accurate in the information age. Both serve the same master, and removal may well serve that master even better than burning, seeing as how there's less spectacle involved and more people willing to say 'Hmmm... well, it's just being relocated, not destroyed, so it's historical value is still retained, I guess."

Yes I know. 1,700 remanding. And as someone already pointed out they're protected. So why worry? I know that some people are stupid enough not to wait for proper channel and just removed the statues themselves. That's wrong.

The context is that it was 1996 when that song came out.

Guess the times have changed.

Times have changed, but the underlying fact that the masses are asses has not.

Indeed. I think that may be tshirt worthy!

Fighting against aggressive tyranny used to be the hallmark of the 'left' and now is advocating for it by using tyrannical means.

Good luck getting that mindset to see it however.

I'd be totally cool with those statues... if they weren't up to celebrate traitorous people that advocated for people to outright own other people.

Now, if, and only if, those statues were created by casting them out of burning metal right over those very living and breathing traitors while they still breathed, then they stood there as a testament to how we as a country feel about people that perpetuated owning slaves... that'd be ok. Then when we pass by them we could look at the smug looks on their faces and know that was justice was at least partially served. I would be ok with that. But that isn't how it is.

There is this quote about history something about those who don't learn from it being doomed to repeat it ... what would that guy know? He was probably some dumb old white guy or something.

Removing the confederate statues is just another way that TPTB keep unnecessary conflict on the front burner. Just another distraction from more serious issues facing society.

Actually a lot of them were erected during a time when certain parties wanted to remind blacks of their place. Long after the Civil war was over. My parents were alive when they were put up. And their meaning was crystal clear to them.

Then along comes my generation. There is a large Confederate soldier bronze statue down-town in my hometown. It's acquired a green patina with age. It has a plaque on it that says "In memory of our soldiers who served in the Civil War" or something to that effect.

At some point back in the 1960's and 1970's plaques were added commemorating town sons that had served in World War I and World War II.

When I was a young kid, I was convinced that this 9 foot tall dude was the boogeymen. And that's all it was. Even as an older teen when I was more aware of its real nature, it didn't bother me.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has made any effort to have the statue removed. And if such an effort was organized, I would vote against it. Whatever its origin, it's a part of the town's history.
