Their investment, 100% their risk, should be 100% their prerogative. Let the market & court of public opinion dictate how their business performs if they choose to put up those signs, and yes, that includes in the rare cases where it doesn't adversely impact their business. Forced social change doesn't change opinions, it simply hardens them further.

Does that include the Bible belt?

Why would it not?

Because gay people would have no place to shop.

Open their own shops. That's how the marketplace is supposed to work. If a Muslim community springs up in a Bible belt town, one of their own usually opens up a halal shop. Again, the business owner holds 100% of the risks, therefore 100% of the customer catering choice should also be theirs to manage.

False... plenty of other businesses would step in.

You sure put a lot of faith in Fundies.

Nope. Greed would compel someone to service that market. We can start listing plenty of examples where companies have been started to target minorities whose needs and interest were ignored by larger companies. Ebony Publishing, BET Television, Record companies, banks, clothing lines, advertising agencies, etc.

Some companies make no bones about targeting the gay community. Subaru is well known as the LBGT car of choice.

So basically, when someone makes a decision you don’t understand – that makes them an idiot?
The owner of the business doesn’t want to serve someone in a way that would jepordize his/ or her moral health. It might be called dignity.
Because of the way this business owner was treated, I might have more gumption to pull something like this myself- after all that “couple” brought it to the battlefield.

Big difference between chicks showing boobs and guys running around in leather chaps and whips. One is biologically normal while the other is fringe... go ahead and keep trying to draw apples and oranges comparisons.

Do you think business owners should be free of government interference?

Yes, at least with regards to decisions which directly impact their chosen customer base. Businesses exist to make a profit, period. If you run a coffee shop and 95% of your customers are daily customer, older folks who are conservative, and you get one or two rambunctious young people who start coming in every day and that starts to drive away your usual customers, then it is a valid business decision to refuse to do business with the few in the name of salvaging your customer base comprised of the many. Again, 100% of the financial risk is on the owner's shoulders (while, not coincidentally, that owner already is forced to share the reward with the government via taxation). So by adding government regulations and ridiculous draconian antidiscrimination laws to the mix, you're effectively increasing the risks, reducing the rewards, but still seeing the government take their pound of flesh. It is the antithesis of a free society.
