Meanwhile, I suggest any men with urges to send pics of dicks to chicks, instead should send well-lit pics of their wallets. That should go down way better.

Damn! That is some salty advice! Pure gold!

I remember the days of old when you could take a Polaroid and send nudes in the mail.

Someone could still use a copy machine and then distribute fliers to their friends, or worse, anyone who could pay. Yet we consider the perpetrator in this case as someone to blame, but not the perpetrator in the digital world?

When we are offered a service that prevents this type of behavior in the digital world and adds security, we complain? It sounds like someone is bitter they can’t send off revenge porn anymore!

What hyperbole?
Don't be grumpy, it spoils everyone's experience

But you're the one implying I never trust anyone.

What I said specifically is that if it's not intended for anyone else's eyes I make sure it can't get there. So if I only ever want that one person to see my naked, then that's the only one who will. One of the best ways to make sure of that is to keep my naked image off all electronic devices.

Do you think I don't even trust myself because that's the implication. Of course I trust myself. I know I would never knowingly spread my naked image around, but I can't ever guarantee that my electronic device is 100% secure. You never know who is waiting to hack in. My computer has an Intel processor and we all know they have that exploitable backdoor, for example.

So wouldn't I be nuts to store a naked image on my computer? Why would I think my phone is any more secure?

You still haven't condemned people who breach trust, only said people are stupid to trust others.
You sound like my grandma.

Unless you were planning on sharing some revenge porn yourself, O.P.?

WTF??
I have no time to live other people's idiocy with them.
Being vindictive makes you just as slimy.
It would not be considered a win to me.

The EU law won't do much to prevent it.

The solution doesn't lie in making things more or less legal, it has to do with giving those whose likeness is depicted control over their digital likeness. There's actually a very big court case involving this that has been waged for a couple years now, as to who owns the rights over a likeness. Is it the subject or the content creator? Once that is finally solved, solutions can be invented.

The goal is that it should never be up to the person you shared a photo with, if they can share it elsewhere. Control over that should always rest with with the person who took the photo of themselves.

all it would take for a breach of users' intimate images would be one rogue misogynist employee.

So this was obviously written by one of those man hating feminists, hence the automatic faith leap to misogyny, and not mentioning the possibility that women are just as capable as men when it comes to this kind of behavior (or misogyny)... if not more. Why do I say "if not more"? Because, women are more likely to be vindictive, and everyone knows it. At this point in history, this is pretty much gospel, as this has been proven time and time again, and on a daily basis. If you've ever been in a relationship with a female, then just agree with me and read on. In fact, that's why we have that old saying "Hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned", there is no such saying for men, because men are usually only vindictive when it comes to larger scenarios like getting their kids taken from him in a bad divorce, not for the sake of Drama like many women do. Some women out there simply love the adrenaline rush of a dramatic situation, and they don't care if they destroy the male in the process, which is why many men are in prison (some released lately after 15-20 years in) for a rape that they did not do...simply because a woman said they did it, and that is usually enough for courts...no favoritism there. So, we have already hashed out the evidence that this was a female.

The question is...why the hell would they want people to proactively send them nudes, when nothing may ever happen? With sending FB nudes, it is 100% assured that someone will see them, and for all you know, it could be a creeper (men usually), a stalker (both are equally as capable of this) or in this case a feminist (who would undoubtedly use this as leverage against the man, or just some"slip up" where his photos end up all over the web.) You would never know who did it, or who to blame, because you would never know who it is processing your nude photos....whatever there is to process. At any rate, putting your nudes online, on your cellphone so as to be hacked and dispersed, or simply having them PERIOD....it's your own fault what happens as a result of your vanity and carelessness. You deserve what you get if you have any nudes of yourself on a picture at all.

I agree. How many examples have we had of leaks from organizations, or credit card companies (purported to be pretty secure transactions) lost hundreds of thousands of Social Security Numbers and/or compromised accounts because of a hacker? Can't you just see this Facebook issue in a News Article one day? "Facebook gets hacked. Hundred's of thousand's of private nude photos leaked to the public". Anyone who has nude photo's of themselves, is an idiot. If you want to see your significant other nude, then get nude with them; but to allow someone to, or to take a nude photo yourself, is just irresponsible and stupid at best. I mean, what's the purpose in doing that anyway?

I implement that same strategy in my home. My computer, iPad, wife's computer and daughters. All have tape over the camera, and the recording/microphones disabled. Smart.

This is ridiculous. Doesn't facebook block all adult nudes? Or do they allow adult content and porn to be shared through it?

There are plenty of other sites, and images can be sent and distributed encrypted, so no blocking them. So they have no way to police the internet.

That said somehow I suspect, they might want bullied teens to send them images in desperation, and blackmail them or their parents with threats of legal action for distributing illegal images, while keeping them and being protected by safe harbor laws.
