Chris stared at the ceiling. The alarm hadn't gone off yet, it was 5am, yet his body even in its advanced again willed him awake. Just once he wished he could sleep late. He had spent a lifetime doing the same repetitive pattern. Get up, get dressed, do something. Come home, eat, go to sleep. Sure there had been slight changes here or there, but at 103, year after year had blurred into a consistant pattern. As he laid there, he pondered his long life. It was only just yesterday he was in high school, playing football, smoking pot, drinking and laughing with his friends. Time had flown by. All he saw before him was his memories he had, those small instances of one or two weeks a year when he went on vacation, or the bright spots such as his childrens birth. He also remembered the low points in his life. Sitting on his knees, begging his first wife not to leave him, telling her how it would destroy the family. She didn't listen, she left anyway. Initially the pain had been immense. In those days he awoke gutted and destroyed, barely able to function. It was only through sheer will he managed to get through each minute of each hour. Then it became each hour of the day, day turned into week, and weeks turned into months. Eventually the pain subsided, the love failed, and well....he moved on. Its interesting as he looked back at his life, all the stupid things he had done, the many plans he made that failed, and still the small successes in his life. All he could say was that he was a survivor, hell at 103 you had to be. His body was old and withered, he still had a tan as eventually he would get out of the bed and get dressed. He would walk down the road to the cafe, order his breakfast and sit outside sipping coffee while trying to squint to read the tele-ready that was embedded in his glasses. It was funny, it was 2082, a century plus some had passed since his birth, he had worn glasses his entire adult life. Even though modern medicine had cured his sight, he had resolved to where glasses anyway. He was a creature of habit, habits that formed when he was young, when his dad would walk down the hallway, and simply flick the light on to indicate time to get up. It was almost always dark when he woke. Still, he would arise get dressed and start his day.

Today was different though, today, Chris just laid there. Everyday before he had willed himself to get up. Stuff to do, stuff to get done, can't stop now, have to chase the rabbit down the hole, and start the days adventure in monotony. It had been this way for a while now. As you age, pleasure slowly drains from your life, still you persist, you continue, if only to have another day. Slowly though, ever so slowly, age slows you down. It beats the fight out of. You stop being in the drivers seat in the car, and for better or worse are simply dragged along the pavement outside getting scratched and scrapped as your old weathered husk of a body succums to the disease of ageing. Still he persisted to himself mentally, I have survived. I lived through World War 3. I helped rebuild a nation. I have had children, fostered orphans, and even taken in the occasional stray cat or dog. He had fed the hungry, provided for the infirm, and gave love and affection to those incapable of returning it, if only because of mental illness. He ticked off his list of good deeds. Things that he had done that would gain him acceptance into heaven. After all, when you get to his age, and your body fails, who doesn't want a new start, a new body, a new place to experience. Hell, for that matter who doesn't want to have sex. How long had it been....it had been a long long time since the last time. He still remembered her, or he I reckon he was. He was 60 then, alone, he had managed to strike up a conversation with a pretty enough, young lady at a bar. She offered her services and he had accepted. He wouldn't normally have, however he was rather drunk, and well, it had been a while then too. He took her back to his car, where he was recieving the most exquisite blow job ever......until he noticed the bulge. She had whipped her manhood out and well.....it was there. Would that make him bisexual he thought? after all, he really hadnt known until it was too late. Maybe if he had fixed his eyesight earlier, he would have noticed the Adams apple. Ah well, hell of a last memory to have to sex. He needed to make a knew one. He would not let his last sexual encounter be with a transvestite prostitute in a bar parking lot. He resolved this just now in his head. It was time. Sure he was 103, he would probably have a hell of a time finding someone, let alone getting it up, but he was going to get laid this week.

Chris started to cheer up. He had a goal. It was a worth while goal he could look forward too. He slowly got out of bed, got dressed and made his way to the cafe. As he sat at his typical seat outside on the deck, the dew was still over everything. The birds were chirping, and frogs were calling out for each other as well. He started to see the entire world in a different perspective. Everything and everyone wanted sex. They called for it, desired it. Was it really the sex though, that people wanted? Mayhaps not, maybe it was just something to give themselves some pleasure, or to fill the need and desire to be touched, or loved, or caressed. Maybe thats all we are, simply just beings trying to seek out other beings to interact with. After breakfast, he walked home, and got on the supernet. He read, researched, and finally found a means to fulfill his want for today. He would buy an AI enhanced robot. Oh look, this model cooks, cleans, provides sexual services, and has college level knowledge in Physcology. Perfect, he thought to himself, his very own sex slave. He went through the order process, filling out the form to decide on skin color, size of her breast, color of her hair, eyes, height, etc. when it was all done, he could even upload a picture if he wanted to help specialize her appearance more. He didn't, but thought to himself that if this proved fruitful maybe he would get a second so they could keep each other company. Do robots get lonely? thats an entertaining concept. He chuckled to himself as he thought of two vaccuums having a rondezvous. They were machines after all. The order was placed, and she....it would arrive within 3 hours. Got to give the Amazonian Empire credit, they may sell everything, but they succeeded in meeting everyones instant gratification need. He thought to himself far better to live in Amazonia, then to live in Microsoft Collective. He laughed again thinking of all those poor bastards having to reboot there fridges daily cause the would freeze up.

Chris was awash with excitement. He was so looking forward to meeting him pleasure bot. As he sat there thinking of everything he would have it do to him, he started to notice a pressure in his chest. Damn he thought to himself, indigestion from his morning breakfast. He laid down and drifted off to sleep.

There was a knock at the door. Chris didnt answer. There was another knock, the robot waited outside. Night feel, morning arrived. Volu notified the police, who promptly arrived for a wellness check. They entered Chris' apartment. There he laid, dead. There was a smile on his face, and a bulge in his pants. At least he died happy. the newspaper put out the obituary for him. his older living sister arrived to the funeral. His children were there too, as well as the children he had fostered. In the corner though away from everyone else there was someone nobody knew.

Tina sat, looking over at all the people coming to see this man. To celebrate his life. She had never known Chris, but her mother had. Tina's mom was a transvestite, who on a lonely night in a part, had had relations with Chris. She had passed a while ago, however Tina and her mom Janet had kept up on Chris' life from a distance. Chris had gifted her his biological essense she had needed to have a child, and while she never intereacted with him after that, Janet had made sure to show Tina whom her father was. She wondered if Chris would have accepted her. too late to know now, still hindsight being what it is, she would have liked to have found out.

Epilogue:
I wrote this story as I've learned through out my life that people will have tremendous ups and tremendous downs. However, as we grow older, ultimately we all become survivors. We all can not escape our fate, which that fate is to live, to love, to be happy, to be sad, to be everything inbetween. That is living life, and while sometimes we ourselves are in the drivers seat, many a times we are not. Some of the most amazing things that happens to us are by chance. You can only embrace your life, embrace the moments within, and live your life as best you can. Remember the good and the bad, but dont dwell on any of it. If you do, you may very well have life slip through your fingers. You may not be rich, you may not have what you want or desire completely, but life isnt about that. Life is about living, and evolving and becoming more today then you were yesterday.

An interesting tale. A little scary with the 'lady' at the bar. I think thats false advertising...

We should live every day the way we would the last one if we knew it was coming.
